58 yrs old here. Started out oh a month ago. working my way to some mileage. Made 15 miles today, no hills. Yesterday was 10Miles, half of it in a decent headwind. 8 miles two days before that, with hills. Things are looking up.
Although have smoked all my life. My lungs are shot. I started doing this after taking a drug test for a job. Seems they noticed too many protiens and ketones. Blood test came later, and the results told me to start eating better and get some excercise. Due to not eating well, I dropped close to 20 lbs in the past 6 to 8 months. From 200 to 180. Intend to keep it off also.
peace out!

Your lungs will repair to some extent. Also, epsom salt bath and cordyceps supplement can help you to better-utilize the oxygen that is available to your lungs. Always talk to your doctor before beginning the use of any herb.

Brrrrr. Out riding after the storm and experienced numb fingers. Swung home on a shortcut and thawed out. Temps werent the coldest (15f) but that 10-15mph wind sucked the heat out of the fingers. One week away from 60deg temps.

First bike-to-work ride since first day of Winter. 20 miles total - upper 30's this AM but sunny and 50's on the way home.

I got 24 miles in tonight. It was 70 when I left, mid-60s when I got back. Pretty nice.
Over the weekend (including tonight), I got in over 90 miles.

Welcome to the 50+, BF in general, and to cycling, its highly addictive and rewarding at the same time.
Bill
Oh, last week saw 144+ miles, as Jim said, just too busy to post each days ride.

@Doohickey, nice pics. (The DFW area must be pretty flat.) Speaking of pics, those pics in your spokes...you letting your inner 11-year-old emerge?
I believe you explained those once before but I may be misoverremembering it.

Just finished my second post-op ride; I'm 5 weeks out from hernia surgery. Feels sooo good to get back on again. I've rewarded myself with a Brooks B17 saddle (which, to me, is surprisingly comfortable even without padded bike shorts) and a Spurcycle bell (which I got to use on my neighbor!). Great weather here in Central PA too!

Was thinking of not riding this morning as I woke up feeling really tired. I had already told the guys I would be there so I went and we did a nice, multi-paced, 45 mile ride. I'm so glad that we didn't have much wind today.

Wickedly fun ride today for the first time in well over a year. A gaggle of Texas Roadhouse Cycling Team riders are in town and joined in to dish out some down home punishment to this older guy. I was just hoping to hang on for 10 miles but stuck like glue for the 40+ miler before the gas station stop. Left the bunch at the station and finished up my ride for the day with a total of 70 miles.

A great 37 mile ride with my buddy Frank C this morning. We've been having near summer weather lately and today was no different.

Nice day, 47°-64°, long sleeved t-shirt and jacket. The weather is supposed to turn nasty over the weekend and part of next week so I turned 21.9 miles today on the Allez (best bike I've ever owned). Part of it was a little slow with a friend. He's on a Trek Domane (high end road bike) and considers 12mph speeding. I did get in a few speed spurts of 20mph. Beautiful day.

Ah yes, the winds of March are right on schedule. 45 deg NW 19 mph wind. Not spring yet but still a good day to ride. 32.7 miles @ 16.1 mph with 1670 feet.

Twelve miles on a beautiful early spring afternoon into a stiff steady wind with some hefty gusts. I swapped out the large trunk bag for a pair of new Nashbar Townie shopping panniers, which fold flat when not in use. Curious to see how they felt in the wind. They're barely noticeable, even with the sideways and quartering wind. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and filled both bags, by which time the wind was much stiffer. Having the bags lower, empty or filled, makes a big difference.

One of the first rides of the year. 30 miles with a little climbing, rewarded with great views!

Looked like a great sunny spring day but really it's still winter - 5 miles in pretty nice mid-30's weather after work late this afternoon.

Another cold night ride, 18f. Usual course, 50min. Cold enough to freeze my feets. Brrrrr.
