Rode 14 miles to check out the near rear wheel. Nothing fancy, but the double wall rim and heavier gauge spokes should hold up better.

A good 38 mile ride with my buddies Frank and Steve. Steve, who is 71, thought he wanted to do some hills, after I told him about my ride last week, because he was thinking of doing a very hilly ride this Sunday with a local bike club. Before today, the most he has climbed is 339 feet in a single ride. Today's ride was 1,009 feet of climb. He did finish the ride but has since given up on Sunday's ride with 1,600 feet of climb. :)

Too much wind yesterday but got in 18.6 on the Roubaix today. Tomorrow (why on a weekend?) looks like wind, rain, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and possibly thermonuclear devices. Damnit! Guess I'll have to stay home and dig into the new Linux machine.

Every had sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia? You probably have. It's the scientific name for ice cream headache.

Hills and hills and hills.

This weekend may be a washout but today was dry and I got in a nice 20 mile bike commute.

Greybeard712 04-30-16 12:00 PM

Well, no earthquakes or thermonuclear devices, but it was cold and nasty. I managed to get in 10.5 miles on the Allez before the wind got too strong. Typical spring weather for Northern Nevada.

Since I already broke my 1,000 mile/month mark, today's slow ride, with my buddy Frank D, was just one, 28 mile lap around the park; just to say I got a ride in on the last day of the month. Taking two days off the bike then kicking it back up a notch or two for the National Bike Challenge that starts tomorrow.

Awoke at 1:30AM today after hitting the sack at 10:30PM last night. Couldn't get back to sleep so I charged the lights and got out on my 36 pound grocery grabber for 24 slow miles. Got back home, prepped the Giant, rode 8 miles to the start of a charity ride for local H.S. football. Ride was 35 miles and had 30 heading out in the first wave. At mile 3 the rear tire goes flat doing 24mph. New tube installed and 32 miles by myself I make it back to the start just as the guys are heading out for the LBS. Hook on with them for another 8 miles then 10 miles back to my home. 85 miles and feeling a bit tired.

GlennR 04-30-16 02:01 PM

40 miles.... as time goes by i'm increasing the distance.

I know exactly what you mean. Although I didn't stop to take photographs on the climbs or descents - gravity simply would not allow it. So I didn't break out the Leica until I got down into the river bottom trails through "Crosby Farm". This is right across the river from Fort Snelling. Here is Ye Olde Roadster underneath some of our crumbling infrastructure:

It gets pretty lush down there in the Spring, yet it is early and cool enough that mosquitoes aren't a problem yet:

Plenty of places to rest along the way, although I didn't really need this one. I needed something like this after the climb out of Hidden Falls Park.. Fifty pounds of bike and gear, along with my own substantial weight, had me unable to catch my breath near the top. I had to walk the last fifty yards or so. For once I was envious of the MAMILs passing me by on their feather-light racing bikes.

It was a good ride, though. Gloomy, but no rain today.

Been commuting all week. From yesterday:

Today my sweetie and I took the tandem out, 41.1 miles (actually the computer read 41.07 but I'll round it up to 137.6 :D).

I'm like staring at that headtube angle and fork rake! Wow.

These old roadsters were the conveyances of gentlemen and "bobbys" (policemen), both of which like to sit up straight and tall. It's hell on a steep hill, however, because you have to use half your strength just to hang onto the bars and keep from falling off the back! But on level ground, it's the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. Heck, it's almost a recumbent...:recum:

wphamilton 04-30-16 09:59 PM

Another group ride this morning and then tacked on 25 miles for it to seem like a real weekend ride.

canklecat 04-30-16 10:48 PM

Very short ride Saturday, curtailed by my misguided efforts to improve my rear derailer shifting by making a minor annoyance much worse. I'm beginning to suspect the only way to adjust these Shimano RevoShift twisty grip shifters is by adjusting them into a box in the closet and replacing them with something else.

Had a nice 19 mile ride this morning down here in southwest Florida:)

Greybeard712 05-01-16 11:49 AM

Beautiful sunny day—until the wind came up. I cut the ride to 16 miles on the Roubaix.

Saturday was a windy 55 mile ride, one of my favorite routes with the Bicycle Ranch shop ride. This mornings ride was a comfortable 26 miles of sunshine with my two favorite riding buddies.

bfuser1509851 05-01-16 05:44 PM

Rode 20 miles, basically because...I don't know why...I think I just felt like riding. About five of those miles, there was a wicked headwind (not in the East Coast sense of "Wicked"), and the whole ride ended up being more tiring than I thought it should be. Fun, though, because I saw a lot of things that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. And I finally built up the courage to wear shorts, exposing my pasty-white calves to the elements for the first time in decades. Just twenty more times and I'll have the base for a tan!

That's a good reason to ride. :thumb:

A long ride (for me) on the French Bike today. Vento Trail, around Lake Phalen to the Gateway Trail, to Dairy Queen and back. I haven't figured out a loop for this route yet. Still, got some nice photos...

Didn't get rained out today! 35 tandem miles on a club ride with my favorite stoker. And some hills, to boot.

canklecat 05-01-16 11:35 PM

38.78 miles, sez Cyclemeter, a new longest single day ride for me. Got a late start, intended only to ride a few miles while adjusting a balky derailer. Next thing I knew I'd pulled a Bruce Springsteen -- took a wrong turn and just kept on going. Appropriately, down by the river. At least that's what we call our smelly, dirty but pleasantly funky Trinity Drainage Ditch. My legs were screaming "Mayday!" the last few miles, and they didn't mean the first of the month. Even with the loafing pace and a few rest stops while forgetting to pause the app, I still managed 10.5 mph overall pace, which surprised the heck out of me. And I managed 18 mph on some one-mile segments where previously I'd done 14-15 mph. Sure didn't seem fast, because the MAMIL's were passing me like I was standing still.

Trace Syd 05-02-16 01:15 AM

4 miles today from my home to office.

SammyJ 05-02-16 11:59 AM

yes, and I should have packed a bar of soap. Got rained on the last 4 miles.
