49 miles today on a club ride. Mostly flat to rolling - only got onto the little ring briefly a couple of times.

Tough ride today. My body just did not feel right about an hour into MTBing, so I stopped after 1 1/2 hours. Went and got a regular soda, something I never do. I felt like my sugar was off, and that did the trick. I MTB a lot, so this was a little weird. But, I think my schedule this week and what is coming up next week threw my body off.
I'm glad you pay attention. Some don't. |

10 miles, downtown and back with a bunch of coffee beans. Stopped to chat with family on the way. I've decided distance isn't as important as just being on the bike.
Also, I live in an urban area where parking is at a premium, but it's fairly easy to find a bike rack. Well, at least in the morning before the hipsters wake up. :) |

Have you ever experienced periods of limited energy before? What do you mean by "coming up next week"?
I'm glad you pay attention. Some don't. Between last week and next week, I am doing 7 professional presentations of 1-2 hours each. As an introvert, this takes a lot of energy. Today, if I had not listened to that little voice, I think I would have gotten myself into a danger zone. And, I am getting too old to act that stupid! |
Nearly had tacos for dinner. Was shooting to ride longer than my 30-mile rides (about half a dozen this year). Broke a spoke about 6 miles in. Wobbled back home. Kicking myself again for selling all my tools about 12 years ago when I figured I'd never ride again after a car wreck.
Giving some serious thought to that N+1 concept. Never owned more than one bike at a time before, but it kinda makes sense. |

34 miles as the sun came up this morning, 19.2 mph avg. 1:46

Solo Group Ride?
Yesterday I went to the appointed place, at the appointed time, to embark on a group ride with one of these "Meetup" groups. The name of the group is "Slow Spokes", so I brought my trusty DL1 for the occasion.
As it happened, nobody else showed up. So I rode the route myself, with only the voices inside my head for company, and it was still a nice day out. All of my rides so far this year have been along the Mississippi River, and this was no exception. I explored a new trail that took me right down to the water: http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...psxozwpzbz.png Since it was so beautiful out there, I went much farther than the original route, and ended my day with a moderate case of noodle-legs. That's a Good Thing, though, because it's going to rain all day today and probably tomorrow as well. |

Ten miles? Must be good coffee! :)
Today I took a 3 mile round trip, just wanting to be on the bike. But it was 1.5 miles against a headwind, so I'm calling it 3.2 miles. |
Did a slow,37 mile recovery ride today for yesterday's hilly ride. Other than the 2 miles I hit it hard to warm up the legs, the rest of the ride was between 12-15 mph and was very enjoyable. Since they closed off the north loop, at the park and made the south loop two way traffic, all the pace line groups have had to find somewhere else to ride on the weekends. Sure is nice! :D

Wind & rain Firday, Wind Saturday, Threatening wind & rain today so I cut the ride short to 15.2 @1:11 on the Allez. I get Grumpy if I don't ride (yeah, uh-huh, that's my excuse).
2016: 1,226 Miles ♂ Total Miles: 10,823 Allez 462/2894 · Roubaix 499/3031 · Sirrus 131/2166 · Trike 134/1717 Shakespeare invented the words assassination and bump. (Bump, huh? Maybe he rode a bicycle) |

Had a wonderful, head clearing day on the Cannondale. Rode for 2 and a half hours in a gentle breeze and temps in the low 60's... Stopped at a local coffee house ("The Kind Cafe" in Selinsgrove) and ran into a professor friend of mine... Good to be alive stuff, you know?http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=517822http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=517823http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=517824

39 very pleasant miles on a fine sunny day. The legs are not up to summer fitness where my typical long ride is 50 to 60 miles so I've been concentrating on hills. Around here the longest hill is one mile and 6% to 8% grades. Every one was out cleaning up yards and I saw a number of people rebuilding stone walls. Must be a Yankee thing. If out in the yard or bored, rebuild or put up a stone wall. Anyway, flowers are blooming, trees are leaving out and it is Spring - hooray!

I just got back from a nice 'n easy, leisurely, 11.25 mile ride in the western suburbs of Richmond, VA. Sorry... Dummy me forgot my camera.
But according to MapMyRide, I did 11.25 miles in 43:34 for an avg of 15.5 mph. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=517834 |
Just got back from a nice not so leisurely 42.3 miles on the tandem.

Got in about 5 miles with a very (very) stiff wind coming off Lake Ontario which kept it cool despite brilliant sunshine. This is the breeze that in January buries us here in 3 feet of snow overnight.

A city I previously lived in built something similar. It was great cycling for the first two years until the tree roots turned it into more of a mountain bike trail. Hopefully your trail will fare better.

It was ten miles round trip, so not so bad. And I just wanted to be on the bike. Also, the coffee I got hits the perfect intersection of good and inexpensive.

Almost motivating enough to get on the bike for a ride this afternoon yet. I'm still feeling exhausted from working 12 hours yesterday, but perhaps the fresh air would do me some good. |
For the week ending today, 153+ miles. Very nice to get back to less poor weather riding.

How have you resisted the temptation for so long? Once I got back into cycling in a serious way, and realized that I was going to have to learn how to build bikes if I wanted more than one, I saved up and bought a couple of tools every payday, until I had a rudimentary shop.
Then, bikes just seemed to fall from the sky. It becomes a slippery slope after that, my friend. Beware... :p But after 8 months of riding a comfy hybrid I have a better idea of my abilities, limitations and what sort of second bike might suit me. And I do have a corner being used to store my old b&w darkroom gear that I'll probably never use again, so there's potential space for a second bike. |

Heh! That's what I'm afraid of -- once I break the "one bike" seal, they'll start breeding like pennies in a dark drawer.

Guess my stoker and I are in violation of a sub-rule because we don't have a Backup Tandem. (Rode 28 local miles on the Screamer this afternoon.) |

Had to think about that. My first thought was, "I gotta remember that the next time I ride into a head wind. Bonus miles. :) But my second thought was, "Wouldn't the benefit of riding with the wind negate the bonus miles riding into the wind?" I know first hand that riding into the winds seems MUCH harder than the benefit of riding with the wind ... This was not my first headwind, but it was the first where I felt incredibly weak. I'm not a very strong rider (though stronger than a few months ago), but this one made me feel like a beginner. There were some grades that I've taken easily before that today I had to go into a very low gear just to get through. |
Yeah, just knowing I couldn't ride today gave me the willies, even though I hadn't planned on riding. But I washed the bike so it'll be semi-presentable for the shop tomorrow. The broken spoke is on the cassette side, out of my league while I decide whether to re-invest in a complete tool kit -- sold all my bike tools several years ago. I'm hoping I didn't do more damage riding a few miles home -- slowly -- on the wobbly wheel. If it needs a rebuild I'm definitely gonna look for a second bike.

Not a great ride today. Just a few miles in and my right shifter died, refusing to downshift. So I adjusted the cable to set it on the 16 and took a round trip through the local bike shops. I was looking for an excuse to replace that old Sora 8 speed anyway but unfortunately none of the shops had an old take-off, or a new one either. Alpha-bikes that I'd only been in once but liked, wasn't even there anymore. About then I noticed that the bike computer died, checking the switch and cable I noticed that my running shoes had split, so I took a detour to Walmart. The whole ride was mostly things not working and unproductive errands, although I did get some shoes.
