Today was to be a sort of recovery ride for yesterday's windy hills ride. Didn't quite turn out that way. Got in a good 40 mile ride with my riding buddies this morning.
|
30 miles on a club ride today in perfect weather - sunny and seventies. Mostly flat countryside with a few rolling hills but nothing required the 30 tooth ring.
I don't remember ever seeing warnings on the road for ROADKILL AHEAD but saw it today in advance of a smashed raccoon (I think???) in the middle of the lane. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_5309.jpg |
Absolutely gorgeous photo (and bike). Interesting spoke pattern on the rear wheel. What is it called?

DQRider, nice photo! I feel that sometimes a photo from a ride is more telling than the ride times, avg. speed numbers, etc...
I too love to take photos along the ride. It helps me to smell the roses so to speak and focus on all the interesting things along the way. Although sometimes you just gotta be there to appreciate it - or should I say, my photos don't always capture the true beauty.

Was in Vancouver this weekend to attend a wedding. Took a bike along and went for a 70k ride with my nephew. (For those who might remember, the put the bikes on the trainers in the living room during Christmas turkey dinner, nephew. http://www.bikeforums.net/fifty-plus...n-cycling.html ) The roads and scenery were beautiful - even if the sunshine barely peaked out. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1702/...ff413fd0_c.jpg |

Finally back to 150 miles for the week, weather looks a bit better now, if the winds would calm down some now. Been busy with building a 78 Medici Pro Strada, all Campagnolo components, 5-speed rears and a 52/41 road double on front. Still need to acquire a saddle, handlebars and tape, a freewheel and chain (Regina, hopefully), brown gum Campag brake lever hoods and some tubulars. Got the bottom bracket shell threads chased by a friend that has the Campagnolo tools, at our LBS.

After yesterday's frigid ride on the "The Cape" we took ye old vintage tandem out for a recovery ride today, only 33.6 miles. Spectacular day, temps into the 60's.
My sweetie snapped this pic at our first rest stop: http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...6/RestStop.jpg So I took this one of her at a conservation area on rt110 approaching Chelmesford: http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...016/Quarry.jpg We took a short walk through woods and on the way out I discovered the rear wheel's drag brake wasn't releasing properly. It turned out to be due to a fraying cable at the lever: http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...2016/Cable.jpg So I spent part the lovely afternoon fixing it, which means my sweetie had a chance to snap another pic: http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...2016/fixin.jpg |

Went hiking yesterday on a tough hike, and my legs were dead today. However, with a new fork on my bike, I HAD to RIDE. My legs were screaming, but I still had a great time.

Yesterday was 31 miles with my 25 year old son. Today was a recovery ride but turned into a 35 mile ride with plenty of wind.
I feel old. |

Although sometimes you just gotta be there to appreciate it - or should I say, my photos don't always capture the true beauty. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1702/...ff413fd0_c.jpg The rear wheel on the French Bike sports a Nexus 8-speed IGH, and comes from Taylor Wheels in Germany. It was available on Amazon, already built, for less than the individual components would have cost me. Darn that stinkin' "One-click" button! So I guess I just assumed that is a 3-cross pattern. Could it just be the lighting angle that makes it look different? Normally, I like to build my own wheels, but I started this project towards the end of winter, and decided I wanted to be done with the build by Spring. So I settled for just building the front, and went "plug-n-play" on the rear. |

I cajoled the wife out for a ride for only about five miles but, baby steps. She really wanted to stay inside in front of some facebook game, but of course in this perfect weather on a lazy Sunday afternoon she was glad she did it. A good ride.

34 miles as the sun came up this morning @ 19 mph avg.
|
I finally got in my first early morning exercise ride of the year, today. I've been missing those. The sun should really just rise early every morning of the year for me! ;) 13 miles, 1 hill, and a stop at the grocery store on the way back.
Spotted on the trail: 0 people, 1 squirrel, 2 white-tail deer, 12 rabbits, and... I stopped counting the cardinals after 15... |
Absolutely gorgeous day; 80° F at the conclusion of the 19.2 mile ride. Visited the doctor for a check up early this morning and good news all around. I'm a happy camper. Lost 16 lbs since November. Yeehaw.

Rode my 17mi personal TT combined with a 15mph headwind made for an excellent "let's see whatcha got" ride. :)

Still cold in the AM, warms up by 10AM. 24.7 @1:59 miles on the Roubaix. You lost lbs - I found 'em. Originally I lost 73lbs cycling over 2 seasons, but somehow I've gained about 8 of those back. Just look for the fat guy on a skinny bike.

Between the cycling, esp. on the 'skinny' road bike, and the low carb diet, losing weight for me has been much easier than ever. I don't feel starved; I can eat; the good stuff that is. As long as the body holds up, I plan on riding and eating good. |
Very slightly cool this morning but the first sorta-hot ride home from work this afternoon. 22 miles bike commuting.
|
Loafed along an 18 mile ride checking out the local riverside MUP and surroundings after some heavy rains. Not bad so far, although flood control decisions can change everything quickly.
|
I am once again amazed at the workout that a headwind can bring to a ride. Yes, I am feeling yesterday....and I love it.
|
Commuting, ah yes. Lost pounds? Great! One nice thing about riding regularly is you can eat just about anything and everything and still thin out!

Yesterday's commute was on the Gazelle, a lovely 531C speed machine with sew-up tires. The day's new experience was passing a flock of half a dozen chickens pecking away on the shoulder of the road oblivious to the heavy traffic zipping by just 10 ft away. Today's commute was on the iconic Miami Vice Centurion Ironman. The chickens were still there, but a bit further away from the road. A few pics from last year: http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/At...rionAtWork.jpg Crossing over rt128 a.k.a. I-95, just west of the 128/I-93 interchange, a.k.a. malfunction junction: http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/CenturionCommute.jpg This is metro-Boston where way down near the other end of 128 you go from I-95 South to I-93 North by continuing straight east while driving on what everybody knows is really 128. |

A good 51 solo miles this morning. Took it somewhat easy since the legs were still a bit stiff from this past weekends rides and the wind wasn't too kind.
|
76 miles with 20+ miles in the 53/12 standing into the wind at 17mph. Great workout for simulating a hilly ride when there are no hills around.
|
Cool then warm, comfy then too warm. Took the trike :recum: out for 22.7 2:11 miles. Turned out to be a beautiful day.
