Not as hot as yesterday but just as humid. Sun was out, a nice breeze was blowing, legs felt good and the wife had nothing for me to do today. Took advantage of it all and did a nice 60 mile ride this morning. 35 of it was solo and the rest with a riding buddy.

16.0 miles (25.7k) but half of that was up steep hills. Kiwanis Bikes group ride, forgot my headband, lost my car keys (found in left rear door-pocket ???) and had two flats, both rear. Good thing they didn't happen on the 33mph downhill. If MURPHY (Law) was here I'd punch him inna face.

Another 3.5 hours of sleep, up at 11PM and was hoping to head out at 12:01AM but didn't make it until 12:44AM. Put a crimp in my plans since I was planning on 150 miles so I settled for 139 miles at 17.1mph moving average. My stamina and strength is slowly coming back resulting in a very good day of bicycling. Will try for the 150 miles next Saturday.

Slowly coming back? Doy.....that's incredible.

No rides Friday or Saturday as I'm visiting my elderly parents in NJ, but I fly back to FL early enough tomorrow to get in a nice afternoon ride if the weather holds.

51 miles. Beautiful day 88° not a cloud in the sky. Had a view of the mountains most of the day. Stopped to eat an energy bar at the end of the road with a view of 7 mountain/volcanoes , surrounded by scrub brush and Juniper trees that haven't been disturbed since the last eruption 2000 years ago.

Ride my years Birthday ride, plus a few extra miles to have something in reserve for next year https://www.strava.com/activities/1041537867 I like to "smell the roses" on birthday rides, I guess so I can enjoy the whole ride and make sure I finish it :D

That makes no sense - any explanation from local government?

Logically they want bicycles in the regular travel lane! Who knows why though. It must be tempting to move the sign 3 ft to the left, where it would force cars to slow down and move left ... like passing a bike ....

Yesterday - Bikes on Roadway! - 55 mile club ride in Bartholomew and Brown counties with lots of hills. 1450 feet of elevation gain. Bright sunshiny day.

Greybeard712 06-18-17 12:39 PM

28.6 miles (46.0k). I've been waiting 8½ months for this weather, 73° to start. The trade off is the warmer it gets in the valley, the earlier and more intense the late morning winds.

After yesterday's intense vertical ride to Verdi I probably should have taken it easy, but I wanted to see how well I could climb on the S-Works Tarmac (higher gearing) so I rode up the steep incline Huffaker (lots of other bikes there). I slowed down a little in climbing (low energy) but hit 25mph coming down and continued on around 22mph for the next several mostly flat miles. Wheee! (The only difference between men and boys is the size and the price of their toys.)

Another scorcher today. Humidity was terrible; 98% at 8:00 AM. I wanted to do a Father's Day ride with the wife, but she'll still out of riding status with her fractured wrist so I did it with my buddy Frank C, his son, daughter and daughter-in-law. Very nice 40 miles.

First 25 mile ride of the year. Weather beautiful, but lousy wind from the W.

Spent most of the weekend with Mom and Dad in NJ. They're elderly now, so every moment I get to spend with them is precious.

I was able to get in a nice 45 miler in threatening skies, care of summer in FL. Winds really picked up, and I was certain I was going to get dumped on, but unlike Thursday I completely lucked out. An unbelievably gorgeous rainbow - horizon to horizon - awaited me as I pushed through the neighborhood. And of course, the salt water dunk tank!

Got in 53.99 miles. Had to cut it short when I got a text that a truck was waiting at the warehouse for me to load. I was hoping to get 63 in today.

I also got a nice Garmin Edge 520 for Father's Day. Was a great surprise from my girls. They spoil me.

102km yesterday, 118km today...felt like I still had another 50 in the legs...the rights with the ride people make it all worthwhile.

The kiddo and I took a 20 mile ride to Pt. Vincente and brunch for Father's Day.

I rode Tempest to the Suzy Bogguss concert in my small town today...she saw it and like it too!

Greybeard712 06-19-17 03:02 PM

24.0 miles (38.6k). Beautiful riding day, expected high 96° (100° tomorrow) but there was a lot of cloud cover so it stayed coolish (mid 80s) for most of the ride. Lovin' these Continental GP4 tires.

I just put on a set of GP4000 SII's, and took them for an inaugural ride yesterday. I like them already, and hopeful that I'll get more than 1000 miles on the rears. That's all the Bontrager's are getting.....

When I bought the 2011 S-Works Tarmac last Aug they came with GP4sII, I have 1,652 on them, dunno how many miles before, and they look good-to-go thru the summer. Put 25C GP4sII on the Roubaix, seriously improved the ride.
After those 2 flats on the Verdi ride Sat I put GP4sII on the Lil' Tarmac (replacing Conti Ultra-Sport). Much less rolling resistance, better protection and grip. Found a set (new) on eBay for $35ea. Now I have 3 bikes with GP4sII tires.

John00 06-19-17 05:52 PM

Just 40 miles today, the shortest of the rides in my rotation. But it was 96°F here today, that's 37°C for those of you in the civilized world. Going to be hot for the next few months.

Biked to work this morning. Donated a unit of blood in the AM - Red Cross comes regularly for blood drives. Nice lady (and the literature) said "Nothing strenuous today." So rode home using only the middle ring. 21 miles.

14 miles late Monday night after taking a couple of days off with neck and shoulder spasms. Felt better afterward. Had to use the upright hybrid, after several consecutive days on the new-to-me road bike. Still not sure drop bars and I can get along anymore.

Mount a set of flat handlebars? Problem is, you would have to change the brake levers too, but I suspect it will be worth it.

mrosenlof 06-20-17 09:14 AM

19 miles after work yesterday. I don't normally cary water on short rides. Wish I had this time.

OldTryGuy 06-20-17 12:24 PM

No rain but winds started to whip and called it quits at 106 miles.
