1st bike ride today since the 9/30 mis-hap (cracked hip :twitchy:). The weather's been nasty, rain and wind, but I made it out early enough to avoid most of the wind. 13 miles on the Roubaix. Still walking with a cane but I can ride. Tomorrow should be a better day.

"Mortimer Mouse" was the original name of Mickey Mouse before Walt Disney's wife, Lillian, convinced him to change it.

I have more climbing just to get out of my neighborhood than I used to see n a 30 mile ride in Fla.

I'm currently living in FL after living in the BlueRidge Mtns. of VA. I would estimate the riding in VA is more difficult by a factor of 2-3, depending on where you ride. I always feel I'm losing ground little by little here. I also love the area north of Charlotte as I feel that has the 'just right' amount of rolling hills.

Our consolation is we can ride year round.........

Very nice warm dry weather for mid-October in the Heartland of America. Rode to and from work today in shorts and no jacket/vest. 20 miles.

23 miles Monday evening, my first ride since last Wednesday. Unusually warm fall evening, still close to 90F when I started. Felt good to get out again. Just loafing along but still managed the same 12 mph pace I usually do on this heavy-ish hybrid even when I feel like I'm pushing hard.

John_V 10-18-16 11:10 AM

38 miles with my buddy Steve. Winds weren't too bad today, staying at less then 10 mph.

I've done long rides here and in some very hilly areas out of state. On long rides, I'll take the hills any day over having to do non stop pedaling for the same distance while trying to maintain a decent speed. Coasting downhill, especially on long descends, really helps save the legs and overall average speed. Coasting on flat ground doesn't get you very far. But you're right, we do get to ride year round. :D

Greybeard712 10-18-16 11:40 AM

More exercise for the sore hip and leg muscles. Man, this ""old age" takes its toll. Lifting the leg far enough to get over the seat is a stretch, but the pedaling feels good.
14.7 miles in cool weather on the Tarmac SL3. Lots of debris on the bike path from the recent winds and rain. But at least the massive amount of homeless campers by the Truckee River have been moved away from the bike path.

Well with an 80 degree sunny day in Upstate NY and fall leaves at 90% it was a perfect day to ride. I went on our Loop the Lake Trail. I did about 10 miles, took my time. I dont think we will see any more days like this one for awhile now lol...

22.25miles this morning at a good pace.
Sambo had other commitments, so we cut it shorter than usual.

John_V 10-19-16 01:02 PM

50 miles with my riding buddy. Winds were back so that wasn't good. Legs were really feeling it today.

Greybeard712 10-19-16 01:43 PM

21.1 miles on the Roubaix. Getting back into the routine after 16 days of healing. Feels good (if a little cold, 39° to start).

14 mile commute on my Fuji 3-Speed roadster conversion, and then another 16 on my Velo de Ville after work. I brought the camera along for the latter:

10 miles to the bank and back to deposit some money. Beautiful morning trip across the 14th Street Bridge into DC.

Got in a dry ride, but only 20mi before the rain arrived.
Looking up i can it is 'mid-Fall' = some green, some yellow, some fallen.

Greybeard712 10-20-16 02:03 PM

Another cool morning, 41° at 9AM. 17.2 miles on the Tarmac SL, first ride on it since the fall three weeks go (cracked hip). Not the bikes fault, "Operator Error".
It's supposed to warm up to 76° tomorrow, 48° at 9AM. Warmer ride.

Today is 10 days since my right shoulder replacement and I got in 56 miles. Hung with the group for a while but let them go after I did a short pull at 24mph. Slow and easy at 13mph to 15mph for the additional 46 miles. Thinking about a 3AM start for a 100 miler on Saturday. First real cold front will be here.

When I rode Six Gap in Ga. last month the 1.5 mile ride from my motel to the start had more elevation gain than a 100 miler here in Englewood, FL.

The rides up north are more difficult if you don't up the speed during a flat land ride. The 11,200' climbing in the 103 miles of Six Gap last month had a lower average heart rate and lower effort compared to recent 100 milers I've done back here. When we get the northerners down for winter riding many complain about a 40 mile no coasting 23mph average ride, and we aren't even the fast guys.

You betch-ya. That coasting is da-bomb especially when you can coast and PICK UP SPEED. 45mph while applying brakes during Six Gap last month.

25 miles with my buddy Steve and 15 solo miles. Nice and chilly start but it didn't last long. Winds picked up around 15 miles into the ride. 💨🚴

Rode 18.5 miles this morning at Pax River. Nice ride along the bay.

Ronno6 10-21-16 02:18 PM

28.1 miles today at a reasonable pace (for us.)
A cold front had moved through overnight and this morning we were left with a brisk NE wind that made us really work on the outbound leg.
Tomorrow should see less wind, but temps down near 40°
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Greybeard712 10-21-16 03:31 PM

16.7 chilly miles on the Tarmac SL3. But it was so nice out I changed into shorts and long sleeved jersey for another 9 miles, 25.7 total. Supposed to be colder tomorrow.

I've been moving within town for the last 2-3 weeks - a huge pimple on the butt but it is finally done. Well except for finding all my stuff much of which is still boxed and being sorted to new locations. The worst part was not getting any long rides in. I sneaked in rides where ever they would fit and was surprised today, when adding up miles, to have done nearly 100 miles per week. Persistence pays off but I know I'll suffer at the next club ride I get to.

John_V 10-21-16 04:33 PM

57 brutality windy miles with my buddy Frankie. Headwinds were like trying to push a brick wall.
