Able to complete another birthday length+ ride today. Got out at 7:30 for 6 miles to LBS. 39 miles with the guys in 1:43 with traffic lights and stop signs then another 28 miles by the time I rolled back into the garage for a 73 mile total. Now it's off on the grocery grabber bike to the food store but at a nice and easy pace.

58 miles with the gang on the Van Fleet Trail in Polk City this morning. The wife and I did this trail several months back but only did 12 miles out and then came back to the parking lot. Today we rode the trial to the north most trail head, and back. It's a really nice trail with lots of shade. Will be doing it again sometime soon.

Around 15 miles round trip again today, but I finally realized, there's a hard way, and an easy way, to do my normal ride. Meaning, there are small hills & inclines, no matter how you go, but you can minimize them, once you figure out the route. ;) Between that, airing up my tires right, and warmer weather, it just felt way easier today. Plus I guess I could finally be getting stronger again, after a long & lazy winter, purposely eating like a pig to gain some weight. ;)

Nice long ride with two fairly new cyclists. We did 90 miles together with me pulling 88 of those miles. Some unwelcome winds for a lot of the ride. One of the riders had only ridden 62 miles once before so she was really excited to bash that mileage mark.

I made sure we kept a manageable pace with plenty of stops. I was able to get in 100 miles with 4000' of climbing commuting over to the start and with a few added miles around the neighborhood. We averaged about 17.5 mph which given the wind felt respectable. They're excited and want to try some other different long routes in the future.

They'd both been hit by a car late last year so they're still working through those anxieties and healing broken bones. A texting driver coming at them went across two lanes to hit them almost head on.

Unfortunately we almost had to hit the ditch today. A young female driver coming at us and texting on a two lane farm road crossed way over the yellow line but saw us just before getting to us. That had my two companions really shook up for a while but we pressed on and got in another nice ride.

45 very hilly miles today on a club ride with my favorite stoker in Bartholomew and Brown Counties.

Beautiful weather, very warm for this time of the year and a very nice 40 mile ride to my 89 year old mother in law. My wife came with the car and we drove home together. New saddle and stem, both worked very well.

A good, but very slow, 37 solo miles today. The park was packed this morning and with half the loop closed for repaving and the other half now a two way path, it was just too dangerous to go very fast, especially with all the children out there riding their bikes. Still a very enjoyable ride.

A 50 mile recovery ride to visit my Father in Law in the hospital on my Time Trial bike. Glad I chose that bike as the aero position was helpful into the headwinds.

Put new tires on my Ti 3 so had to try them out - 10 miles on Panaracer T-Serv PT 26 x 1.25 folding tires. Actually measured 28mm width instead expected 32 - maybe that and the kevlar bead are why they are approx 100 gm lighter than Forte tires they replaced, which do measure 32. Nice short ride.

Yes, yes I did, Saturday, 115 miles, 16.4 MPH avg. TOSRV Saturday leg, Columbus, Ohio to Portsmouth, Ohio. Was a pretty good day weather wise. Just a few very light sprinkles. Pretty good food stops. Quite good roads and lots of LE support along with roving support vehicles and multiple mechanics at rest stops. A lot of people made the ride back Sunday. Roughly 2000 cyclists.

Two doctor appointments this morning and then it was off for a 27 mile bike ride with the wife. It was about as slow as yesterday's ride but this time she was with me so I have an excuse. :D

Four days of nasty weather but sunny today. 22.3 miles on the Allez with new orange & black tires. Looks good. Lotza Dr. appointments coming up, but then that's the price you pay for getting old (damnit). I try to make them in the early afternoon so I can still get my morning rides in.

Rode a hilly 38, probably not a single level section in the ride. Temps were 65-70 at home but 45ish next to the big Lake Michigan. That 6 miles I endeavored to move quickly.

Rode the '88 Cannondale Criterium. What a great hillclimber.

It's tough going to and from work every day excpt when it involves a bike!

Did 37 miles on the Suncoast Trail this am and 52 miles this past Saturday on the "hilly" part of that trail north of Brooksville. Sure is nice to live so close to a great trail!!!��

Rode about 20 miles after installing the new grip shifter and tweaking it along the way. Much better, smoother, more positive and lighter shifting now.

Since I am down to less than a month before retirement (after teaching high school 40 years) I figured I should stop just talking about bike commuting and actually do it. So for the last week or so I have been commuting to and from school on my bike. Only 7.4 miles so it's not too bad, other than getting a little sweaty here in Florida. Of course my students have been impressed that this old guy can ride a bike further than they can, but also leads to questions-

"No, I didn't get a DUI and lose my license"
"No, the bank did not repossess my new truck"
"No, my wife did not take my car keys"
"Yes, I rode it ALL the way, and will again this afternoon"
"No, I did't try to race the paper delivery guy in your neighborhood"
"No, I didn't stop by the Hide-A-Way (local pub) on the way home" (OK, I will admit I lied on that one, but just one day so far)
"Yes, it's a nice bike and I did not buy it used at Goodwill"
"Yes, the police did clock me on their radar yesterday on the road into school, 16.2 MH"
"No, I am not training for the triathlon, even in my age group. I RIDE my bike, not RACE my bike.
"No, I will not bring you breakfast next year after I retire, but you can bring me breakfast if you want"

Gotta love teenagers!

Unusual morning wind but I managed 14.9 on the Roubaix. At least it was sunny. Funny how I did a bunch of 24 mile days before the National Bike Challenge started (May 1) and lately it's been around 15 miles or less. Humph.

Los Angeles sits atop the third largest oil field in the country!

2 months to go for my 66 birthday so out today on a birthday preparation ride. Great weather, windy but not too much, good company for 36 miles with a few other riders and GREAT COMPANY for the other 39 miles consisting of me, myself and I.

Twelve windy miles, interrupted by having to duck under an abandoned building's carport to dodge a sudden deluge. Usually I'd just keep riding, but moments before the rain came I found myself inside a small dust devil being pelted from all directions with gravel. Seemed wiser to get off the road until the worst of it passed.

I've always wondered who actually got to drive home with the women in the car advertisements. And now I know! :lol:
