41.3 miles this lovely morning with temps in upper 40's when I left and mid 50's when I returned. A slight breeze was all there is as far wind goes. Forecast this weekend is for rain and snow. What a lousy way to welcome spring.

Had one of those amazing rides -- sunny and warm, I felt strong, bike was perfect. This was my second 56-mile ride in three days.

10 Wheels 03-19-10 06:33 PM

Sunny Burned at 70* with winds of 10-18 mph.
84.3 miles

After 4 days of intense training tonight's 45 minute high cadence roller ride was a dream. Then the core muscle work, yuk!!!

BluesDawg 03-19-10 09:41 PM

Didn't get home until 6:00, but it was still 72F and no wind. My wife and son joined me for a slow 2 mile ride around the neighborhood and then I took off and rode another 14 miles. Forecast for tomorrow is sunny with a high of 78F. :D

39 miles. Rode with my brother in law and we did a nice warmup, then 5 x 10 minute hill intervals, then back home. Was a nice clear day with temps in the upper 40's with a fair wind. Saw something new today. We passed a guy going up the same hill we were riding on and he had huge ankle weights on each foot. At first when I came up behind him it looked like he had big winter boots on, He had to bow his knees out to avoid having the weights hit the crank arms. I was thinking about leaving a full bottle at the start point on our last interval to make it a little easier.:D

Would pay a quarter to see a video of that.

Rode 27 rural miles today. Beautiful day: partly-cloudy 60's, light breeze. Getting a bit stronger - not a hint of calf cramping today.

Thursday and Friday in the 60's. Today 30° and 6½" of snow so far.

One heck of a first day of spring.

March 20, yes, did a great ride with the daughter today.
We got up at 5 AM this morning and drove to Inverness FL to do The Clean Air Ride. The temp was in the low 40s when we got their about 7:15. Neither of us are prepared to ride in temps that low but we braved the cold anyway ( arm warmers and leg warmers are on the list for next Christmas already). We registered and had the breakfast that they offered and headed south. Slo Spoke Tina wears tennis shoes and has toe clips on her pedals and about 20 miles into the ride one of her shoe strings wrapped around the pedal and she went down. Skinned knee bruised hip and scrapped elbow hurt pride. We patched her up and kept going. We cut the ride a little short at 71 miles. We had a great time in spite of the cold and the blood and broken mirror. The weather warmed up very nice as the day went on and at the finish it was about 77*. We had a great time as the Withlacoochee Trail is one of if not the best trail in FL. Tomorrow will be a short ride (20 miles) to Panera Bread and a car show if the wounds heal enough and the muscles are not to tight.

71.20 miles today
507.40 miles this month
1571 miles this year
51 ride days TY vs 46 ride days LY
5928 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
363 miles ahead of this date last year

Today was just about as nice a day for bicycle riding as I can remember or imagine. I started riding at noon at about 65F and spent the afternoon riding in the sun with mid 70s temps. There was just enough breeze to keep it from being perfect, but it was far from being a problem. The trees have not quite started greening out and blooming yet, but that means there's not a thick haze of pollen in the air yet.

I picked up the metric century route for our club's upcoming April Fools Ride at the 33 mile point and rode the whole thing. At about 34 miles, I stopped at a Mediterranean restaurant in town for a chicken kabob wrap (delicious :)). I got back home with 67 miles on the ride, the longest ride I have done since the century I rode in June '08 just before my cancer treatments began. I feel great.

33 miles today. Beautiful weather. Road a little poor in places account of recent storms. Nice tailwind coming home.

Great first day of spring here in south east PA. I'm still feeling out of shape from a too long winter and the 7 pounds I gained back. But managed 20 miles today. Could have done without the 10 mph breeze. Quite a few others had the same idea; but the Oley Valley in Berks County has always been a popular ride destination. Roads in great shape, very rural with low traffic. Wrapped up the day by stopping in at a church spaghetti super. Will have to remember to go back April 10th for ham and dandelion super.

And your team just tanked in the NCAA, it must be tough being in Kansas today.

Hardly "my team". I'm a graduate of the University of Nebraska. But I'm sure there are many KU fans that are borderline suicidal right now.

30 miles in today. Low 50's at the start, mid to high 50's by the end. 5 - 10 mph breeze. The high today, I believe was 65 and snow tonight????

That's great, BD.

Did a very short (8 miles) ride yesterday, the first of the year. Just to get the rust off. I was very excited about the effect that riding the trainer over the winter has had. Did a couple hills that usually have me huffing and puffing early in the year. Spun up them with almost no effort. Hoping to get out today for a longer ride with some larger hills just to see what happens!

BikeWNC 03-21-10 10:41 AM

After the hardest winter in nearly 14 years, I've managed to get out on the bike the past few weeks. This weekend I got out with NealH for 92 miles and 6000' of climbing in 6 hours ride time. I guess that's a start after 3 months of sitting on the couch.

Short rides for me yesterday and today along the Delaware River. Enjoyed spectacular weather and rode my Downtube bike for the first time in months. I love my 12" Citizen, but the Downtube feels more like a full sized ride.

Allegheny Jet 03-21-10 03:01 PM

49 miles with 5 buddy's and another rider from the OSU Cycling team, that caught on to our group, for the last 35 miles. I accompanied the ride invite with this movie masterpiece: http://www.xtranormal.com/profile/2291743/

Temp upper 30's to low 40's, wind NNE 25 mph. Light rain. I just couldn't stay inside no more. Didn't ride last weekend because father in law passed away. Didn't ride yesterday because weather was like today. Went out today and did 20 miles on mtb and had a blast! Stayed out of the wind as much as possible. Basically did a big loop through Grafton, IL and Pere Marquette state park.

I hope to never again talk myself out of riding because conditions are less than ideal.

I will sometimes talk myself into a short ride that turns into a much longer one:D. I've also gone for longer rides and part way through, came to the conclusion that it wasn't fun anymore, and took a short cut home :notamused:

Yesterday went for a walk, it was supposed to be 9℃ and sunny, we got to the 5km mark and it started a few flakes of snow, sun never did come out. Decided that 9℃ wasn't going to happen, and turned around, we had another 3km we wanted to go, canned that and turned around. Decided the next time we go down there, will be with the bikes. Biking around Toronto Island is much better then walking, faster too.....

big john 03-21-10 09:05 PM

Yesterday 9 of us went into the mountains where the huge fire had been and subsequent washouts and slides. Some of the roads are still closed but we were able to make it up to the last remaining cafe, which has been re-opened for a week. We passed many burned out houses, retreats, and a cafe that was there for 100 years. Very sad part of the day.
Anyway the weather was perfect and we climbed over 6500 feet in the first 40 miles. The return trip had a couple thousand feet, swirling winds, and a head-on crash between a car and truck.
Vancemac brought his new BMC and snapped a pic near some charred plants.

A cold somewhat dismal 16 miles in a NE wind from the ocean. At least I got out. Think I have had just about enough of the trainer.

Last shots today

The doc gave me my last knee injections for lubrication today. It is called synvisc. I call it Valvoline for the knees. I can hardly feel the bone spurrs now. My imagination thought it was a lot worse. I have a follow up visit in July after a miler in 7 days with my brother in June. Being 58 going on 16 is the bad again.
