I would agree, but now I keep hearing them talk about an engagement in a royal family that I care even less about.

BD - you have got to get your priorities straight. What could be more important then so-called "stars" and "teen activists" dancing around the floor, and an engagement across the pond? Jeez, guy - seems like you just don't know what is important in life!!

I watch some but not that much but I don't get tied up in it. But I don't even trust the news not to be slanted or political so I sure am not surprised by reality TV.

Well, if you want a graceful sport in which the judging is uninfluenced by politics, you could watch Olympic Ice Dancing cough gag choke arggghhh........

Even since the Cheetah girl got screwed out of a finals appearance and after that really cute Olympic swimmer (my mind is blanking on her name) got shafted in spite of the fact that she was an excellent dancer, I've not watched DWTS with the anticipation of seeing justice fairly and impartially rendered.

Of course, you could say the same about the typical Supreme Court session as well.

I admit that I've voted for both Marie Osmond and Bristol Palin. Don't like it? Don't get an abortion.

I asked my wife one question yesterday: Is Anna Trebunskaya still in the competition? When she said no, my interest in the rest of the competition immediately came to an end. An athletic red-headed Russian woman? It doesn't get any hotter than that. It's enough to make you turn Communist.

Natalie Coughlin was her name.

You and I share another interest... Russian dancers. I like Karina.

I would like to be on that show and do the Argentine tango with Karina. Do you think my bottom 1/3 peloton performance at Worlds Track and BF posting is enough celebrity status to get me on the show? Certainly equivalent to Bristol Palin.

Turn Commie no problem... I will make a deal with the devil.

Not to quibble, but Karina is Ukrainian. The closer you are to Kyiv, to more likely you are to hold Russians in contempt.

OTOH, the closer you are to Krim (Crimea for you Philistines) the more likely you are to identify ethinically with the Russians.

My daughter's new middle name is Karina, so we go nuts every time her name is announced on DWTS. A better, or more accurate middle name or patronymic for my daughter would have been Andreva or something close to that, but we weren't that smart when we were filling out the birth certificate.

So, in order to diffuse the thread of the ugly left-wing hate speech just perculating below the surface, I think we can all agree that young Russian/Ukrainian women are, as a rule, smoking hot. Until they reach forty, and then any cycling American woman has them whooped.

I knew Karina was Ukrainian but I was trying to keep it simple. I forgot about your trip and adoption. I am sure your daughter will be a gem and you will have to protect her from the boys at least for awhile.

We now return this thread to the control of the leftist impudent snobs waiting to explode and finally get this thread locked.

There are times I just can't help myself.

When it regards Anna Trebunksaya, all I got to say is "Shoes for Industry, Comrade!"

Sounds as though this is the same as our "Strictly Come Dancing" Celebs with a professional Ballroom Dancing partner attempting to show how versatile they are. Some are good- Some are Bad and some are Rubbish. Have got to the stage where there are about 7 left that could win- and Then there is "Anne Widicombe" an "EX" poltician. She is bad but she is being kept in with the Sympathy Vote. Unfortuanately it has now got to the stge where if she stays in next week- she will eliminate someone that could win.

I hate the programme but it is either that or X Factor which I like even less. This saturday will be time to go down the Pub.

OK, we're regular watchers but it took me a few seasons to have any interest. Now I watch it mainly for the commentary, some of it hilarious. Hermes, did you see the 'Tour de Dancing' feature with a guy on a unicycle? Hilarious.

For me, watching DWTS for commentary is the equivalent of reading Playboy for the great articles. However, my mind does drift and I agree that some of the commentary is pretty funny.

No, I did not see the Tour de Dancing.

This thread has far exceeded my entertainment expectations

Actually, if you have watched Dancing With The "Stars" before this season you know there are always a couple of people as dancers whose only attribute is that the producers expect them to draw viewers. Sometimes the producers hit the mark, like this year. Sometimes they miss the mark, like last year.

If they hit they get lots of viewers and can sell lots of advertising at high prices. Then they make more money. Which is their goal. According to what I saw reported Dancing With The Stars is the number one program on TV. Not only that but Bristol Palin, who is the only performer without an entertainment background, has drawn the most votes of any person who has appeared on the show. So, they definitely hit their goal and the BMW dealer must be a happy fellow, eh?

Oh yes, I would be remiss if I didn't comment on Mama Bear's appearance in the audience. Although that gets lots of press the fact is that the families of the other performers have been in the audience too and have had their mugs flashed on the screen as much, if not more, than Bristol's mom.

TV is 99% entertainment. Even the "news" shows are basically entertainment or teasers for another entertainment show. In the winter, I NEED entertainment.

Of course I expect y'all are going to watch Skating With The Stars

No interest in that one either, but one show I have found kind of entertaining is called Battle of the Blades. They pair enforcer type hockey players with female figure skaters, and hilarity ensues.
Actually, It's surprising how nimble some of those big guys are, even though I half expect them to forget themselves, and check their partner into the boards.
I don't know if it's uniquely Canadian or not.
Here's a clip with Tie Domi and Christine Hough-Sweeney . He's about as graceful as a moose, but still fun to watch.

Minor correction: it's called Battle of the Blades
Hockey players and figure skaters,

What Dan said.

I'm pretty sure we are talking about two different things. Skating With The Stars is an ABC program that starts in a couple days. At least that is what ABC is adverstising.

I'll have to check out the CDN show. I'm always up for seeing just how versatile some of those big guys can be.

Reality is overrated, hence TV. But if they came up with 'Cycling With the Stars", well now we're talking.
