Though Winter is in full swing my bikes and potential photo rides are still in the forefront of my mind. My vision for the upcoming riding season is one of almost unlimited time and opportunities, unless reality sets in and changes things. I've been scoping things out and have posted a couple of winter views of things to come.

Here's what us poor North Coast creatures have been dealing with. These poor critters are waiting for Spring with at least as much anticipation as I am, meanwhile, they're busy walking on water...




These pictures are of the Genesee River at the Port of Rochester on my regular ride route.




One area I hope to spend ample time in is the University of Rochester, which is accross town from where I live. These are shots of the University Library...






Here's a picture of the Boynton House, a prairie style home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. My daughter in Chicago is a big fan of his so I anticipate riding by and photographing this structure often.




Are you thoroughly chilled to the bone yet? I am, so here's a couple of pictures from inside the Lamberton Conseratory in Highland Park...another destination of mine for next season.









So think warm thoughts and hopefully I'll soon be able to post ride reports with photographs of these same areas showing ample greenery and blossoms without having to resort to stopping into the Conservatory!!

I ride with a Canon PowerShot A580. Since I was truckin' it last week, most of these pics were taken with my Canon PowerShot SX20is, though the ducks were taken with the A580. I generally ride with my least expensive camera as I have occasionally been known to loose my battle with gravity and tip over.

Those are pricey cameras if you have an issue with gravity--granted not pricey compared to some high-level SLRs.

Bring her down to Pittsburgh someday! We have a couple Frank Lloyd Wright houses not too far from here: Fallingwater and Kentuck Nob. Fallingwater is especially impressive. They took my 5th grade class there on a field trip -- I thought having a real water fall in the middle of the house was kind of neat. And, the way its designed, you're never quite sure if your inside or outside... Plus, there is some very nice cycling near Fallingwater... If you go in the fall I guarantee some great photo opportunities!

She's currently working at a firm in Chicago and is in the process of planning her wedding. The last time we spoke she was investigating the possibility of having the cerimony performed in Unity Temple. Like I said, she's a big fan.

Love FLW architecture. Unfortunately, many of the homes built have issues such as leaky roofs and a lot of his furniture, although extremely pleasing in aesthetics, is not comfortable.

I just had an electrician at my place last night. He had to come in the evening because he was in the process of installing 100 recessed lights in an old circa-1900 Pittsburgh mansion (we still have a lot of them).

The owner just bought it for a million dollars and is putting another million in to renovate it.

I guess when you get up into that territory, if you need a place to sit, you just buy a regular house to crash in...

It's on my list of places to ride to and photograph. My oldest daughter is very fond of Nick Tahou's and has requested that I post a few pictures so she can choose one to frame and display in her home in L.A.

It also qualifies as old acrhitecture since it's located in the old Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railway terminal building which, by the way, scratches my rail-fan itch.

With so many destinations I wonder if maybe I should have retired a few years earlier.

A total restoration has just been completed on the Boynton house and I've watched a PBS special that chronicled the job from start to finish. The original furniture is in the house and in use. Much of the surrounding land had been sold and built on so some lanscaping adjustments were necessary and I believe the garage is not to original plans.

I'll get better pictures when the more comfortable bicycling weather returns. Rest assured, my bike will be in the foreground.

We're lucky enough to live around the corner from an F.L.W. house. Rumor has it he built this one for the "common man", an effort an an affordable structure.

Sorry I didn't get the full length of the home, but the caretaker's ugly pick-up truck was in the driveway as I rode by, and again on my way home.
