I posted these in Winter cycling.
I really enjoy the beauty and solitude of Winter Cycling. A couple of days ago we got what will most likely be the last winter day. So I made the best of it.

The lagoon is starting to thaw. By the time I got home I had ridden from Winter to Spring in a few hours.

I'm envious of all you people living in warmer climates during these winter months and able to take such nice pictures. I can show you images of my bike on a trainer while I'm Zwifting? Not very inspirational that's for sure.

....but this last week it has really turned, the sun has been out all day again today and its glorious, and everyone's spirits are lifted. It feels like spring and summer are finally with us. Here's a nice magnolia tree from this morning declaring summer is a go!

Thanks. We had a mild winter with minimal snow, but have been hammered with lots of storms with very high winds and more rain than usual...which is quite a lot to start with

The old house he lived in is no longer there, but until very recently there was an old mulberry tree known as Dr Johnson's mulberry which was reportedly there in Johnson's time that he used to gaze out on. Sadly this great old mulberry was itself a victim of storms and was fatally damaged and had to be felled in 2017.

And while I'm on trees, here's another, this one is protected. There are older and larger more impressive plane trees in London, but this is protected as it features in an old William Wordsworth poem, 'the reverie of poor Susan'. Apparently there is a clause in the lease of the small building behind the tree, saying they are not allowed to extend the building any higher than it is, to protect the tree.
Nobody knows exactly how old the tree is, but Wordsworth wrote the poem in 1797 so it was definitely here then. its not in leaf yet but will be very soon, its located on the junction of Cheapside and Wood Street, and poem can be read here: https://www.london-walking-tours.co....plane-tree.htm
