The 50+ TRX and/or PX90 Thread
Any other 50+'rs interested? I noticed a number of folks who have mentioned TRX. I know nothing about PX 90. but my neighbor claims he uses it with great results, but one wouldn't notice those "results."
Right now I am working on:
I have done other "basic" TRX videos and enjoy variety. I also do a full range of other "traditional" resistance and targeted stretching exercises.
Anyone else?

I've co-opted 3 of the P90X routines into my regular work-outs. I really like the ab work-out, though I've yet to complete the entire thing, I like to source the best and leave the rest.
I think I tore my rotator cuff on the TRX straps a few years ago - be careful. I don't go near those things anymore.

Yeah, I am here Denvr. I have been using the TRX for a few years and really like it. I haven't tried P90X although I was diven the program last year. Still a little time to make good on last years resolutions. I better get busy.

I did P90X and P90X2 for several years at home. I only used the discs that I liked well and didn't bother with the remainder. You will need dumbells or resistance bands and a chin bar. Tony Horton is in amazing shape for his age. I did find him to be a bit "corny" in the DVD's which became irritating after a while. P90X and X2 is pretty tough stuff. You will get in pretty good shape and it would be a good winter workout if you can't cycle much.
I finally got bored working out in my basement and went back to a fitness club where I am lifing weights and spinning (and admiring all the yoga pants).

I never heard of TRX before. It looks like a useful piece of equipment for home exercising. For now I like using the machines at the gym so I probably won't bother but maybe in the future...
Frenchfit -- I am not satisfied with my abs routine. Can you describe what you took away from PX90?

One question about the TRX -- can that device be easily hung off a door without doing anything to the door? Might be a useful thing to take on an extended vacation.

Yes it can. You used to have to buy the door kit separately. I don't know if that is still the case. I bought it primarily because of time spent in hotels.

I've done P90X through (two winters ago) once and it was a fabulous experience, but a very difficult one. I followed the standard routine through to the letter, including recording each exercise, weight used, reps, etc. as the book says. My wife and 23 year old daughter just completed the "light" option a few days ago, which substitutes more cardio for some of the lifting.
I just started it (P90X standard) again on December 1st as my winter workout - today is the 5th day. Initially, it's exhausting and you hurt all over. I did the day-4 "Yoga X" last night, and I can say that it's pretty tough - strength, balance, flexibility - your body shakes/shudders through much of it until you learn to relax, breathe and focus only on the portion being worked. It's not for sissies.
The essence of P90X is that it's a ~3-month program where you are guided through a sequence of ever-changing routines (in so-called "phases") that don't allow you to plateau in fitness or strength gains. They call the idea "muscle confusion", which I'm assuming has some physiological basis in the strength community. Each week has six days of workout with a 1-day break, where you can rest or do some light activity. You get additional ab work on days 1,3,and 5 - and the ab workout is crazy hard.
Bottom line is that it works to raise cardio fitness, improve strength in major muscle groups, improve flexibility and greatly increase core strength. Your body changes shape, too, in a good way.
By March, I'll be ready to be on the bike again, stronger and refreshed. At least, that's the plan.
I can say that after the first four workouts, I feel sore, exhausted, and scared what tonight's workout will bring (I think that it has back and legs (which are easy for those of us who ride
)). Phil

Having been very familiar with the legendary PX-10, I was expecting a Peugeot bicycles thread.

Well, I ordered a WOSS 3000 Equalizer for $35, looks to be a TRX clone without the DVDs. Maybe this one is for Delta Force wannabees instead of SEALS. It got good reviews on Amazon. We shall see. They have a slightly different version for $25 but I liked the looks of this one better.

Full TRX this morning (video above) except the stretching at the end - I ran out of time - have to get to Messiah practice. Challenging, but I did mostly the easy option except the flies, where I chose the harder option. I had a bit of trouble with the side planks - they have never been my forte. Anyway, the body feels great - I love the feeling of my muscles being challenged.
