My personal achievement, or at least goal, for any ride is to be alive at the end of it.

Actually I first started cycling when I stopped smoking cigarettes in my late 20s so you could say that I swapped my previous addiction for the adrenalin drug.

This thread reminds me why I don't visit this particular too much anymore.

I just ride my bike as much as possible...yeah that's my addiction, simple.

Tomorrow is Bike to Work Day; it got postponed from 2 weeks ago because of the fires here. I always like to cruise by the pit stops and pick up free stuff.

I used to participate regularly when I lived n Denver. Now, it doesn't fit my routine well in Portland, so I don't participate. I recall great times riding it, seeing all the people out for their first ride, the local sponsors giving out food and swag, etc. I'm going to make a point to do it here next time.

Well it is obvious I am somehow missing the point here...it is not the first time and I'm sure not the last. But hey I'm just an engineer that enjoys cycling and being alive so what do I know. Will stick to the touring and long distance forums for now.

Sounds like So Cal. I used to live in San Diego and worry about friends in the Alpine region that had to evacuate a few years back. And breathing raining ashes isn't something good for you, while riding especially I would imagine.

The ride in was very nice this morning.


I rode through the area where the first fire started and the air still smelled like ashes two weeks later. It's weird because there are bushes that are half green and half burned/dead. I'll try to take pictures on the ride home.

I can likely pass all you cyclists, and I will wave, and even say good morning, day, whichever is appropriate.

I fire snot rockets at everyone I pass.

In my native country, firing snot rockets is a sign of affection.
