As the older threads age off, the new iconography will be gradually replacing the older envelope icon. The new icons came into play with threads started after the update, so we will get consistency there as time passes.

Windows XP IE7 here at work where I'm having issues with page width, haven't checked at home yet.
|
Try Ctrl-f5 (Windows) to force a page+cache reload on the page. That should update the icons for you.

It fixes all icons except the "you've posted here" icons. Tom just mentioned that those weren't updated.

This is really going to cut into the amount of time I spend here. Who decided that the forums need to look like some geocities page straight out of 1999, with loud colors, unintuitive icons that don't indicate their meaning, pixelated graphics, and sideways scrolling reminiscent of a busted table....really?

No he didn't, he completely misunderstands how the icons actually work.

Maybe I'm glad that it's not displaying the way that it is for everyone else, because i don't really notice a difference. The anger about this update is hilarious, however.

He didn't mean to imply that the "you've posted here" icons were not updated, but for those who DO understand how icons work, that's pretty much what he said.

What he said was completely wrong. The thread icons have changed regardless of whether the thread was created or posted in before or after the update.

Except that they haven't changed. The "you've posted here" icons are still the same as the old ones.

Right, and the regular icons have changed regardless of the age of the thread. There is nothing in the following statement that is correct:
"As the older threads age off, the new iconography will be gradually replacing the older envelope icon. The new icons came into play with threads started after the update, so we will get consistency there as time passes." |
Windows XP - Internet Explorer
All posts are off on the far right of the screen currently. I had to scroll all the way over to hit the "post quick reply" button. |
Windows 7 and IE 8. all posts still scroll FAR to the right. quite annoying indeed.
|
Another vote for, "The new icons are awful."
Please change them back. Also, if there is any possibility of returning to the older style forum navigation drop down... |
flames, flaming flameage, that seems to be the consensus, Tom. Nice overall, but
-> flames jump out a bit colour wise compared overall -> no gradation, which is a shame -> what is difference between cycle and flame? -> choice of icons and size generally are a tad jarring. Flame, bicycle. Bicycle, flame. Shoe repair, key cutting. Strange world. -- I like the locks, cute -- I gave up a while ago on the multi-quote, when I tried it would remember my selection and paste it as default into my subsequent reply. Anything on that? Overall though, just a reminder in case you never hear it (as the first thing on anyone's mind in a thread like this is to point out the problems, me included), -> still a miles better forum (in style and content) than the vast majority of forums I've seen -> thanks again for not f***ing it all up :thumb: |

OK, tech is working on the outstanding bugs. We've been through all this, pretty much every time new software goes into play, llittle things break. First on the list is the scroll/sizing issue.
|
About the icons - I don't really care that they've changed, but why do I need to be told that there are 'hot' threads. If I read the title, and it interests me, I'll open the thread. The fire thing is pretty useless.
|
Text wrap seems to work just fine on IE, but not on Firefox if you don't have a full-screen window open.
|
What's the difference between the + on the icon and the thread title being in bold?
|
I fixed the text wrap issue by clicking "Forum Actions" at the top of the page, selecting "General Settings" and then towards the bottom, changing the Message Editor Interface from "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" to "Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls".
Running IE8 on Windows 7. Hope that this helps others. |
what's up with all the pixellation in the avatars?

Regarding the icons ... I'm seeing several different colours of envelopes, bicycles of different colours, flames, and what looks like water droplets. I can't tell what's new, what's old, what I've posted to ....
Is there a key that comes along with all these icons so we can figure out what they all mean ... or can we settle on one (maybe the bicycle, seeing as this is a cycling forum)? |
most of the subforums have acquired way too many stickies at the top of the page, isn't there an alternative?
|
Note that all of the icons are now the ugly new icons, including the "you've posted here" icons. At least it's consistent now. Consistently ugly.
