What is the best bike lock material?

Alright, long story short, a few months ago I had my new bike stolen. Luckily I was able to recover it. I am in my last year of college and my bike is my only transportation to class so losing it was a serious pain.

I was looking around and came across this site that claimed that hardened steel is what you should be looking for in a bike lock. Is this true?

Price is no issue for me, but I am looking for suggestions on the best bike lock so I do not have to face another few months of disaster if this ever happens again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pretty stupid article;it's just focusing on what the locks are made of,not how they're made. They recommend the Street Cuffs because of what they're made of. Google and you'll find reviews like this which show those things are a joke. The fact is,if a professional thief wants your bike, power tools will take out your lock no matter what it's made of. Best practice is to lock your bike properly,so the amateurs will look for something easier, and keep the really nice bikes where the pros won't have access to them.

Fair enough. I guess I am already doing all I can then. Thanks.

Don't use a good bike (or at least a good-looking bike) for commuting to class. Get a beater, or something camouflaged as a beater and an impressive lock so other bikes look more attractive and easier to steal than yours.

Others on the forum have said this lock is very good, but it is heavy and I don't think there is a bracket for attachment on the bike so you might have to carry it in a backpack etc.

I've been trying to get someone to make an adamantium lock. If they can do it out of kryptonite I don't see why one comic book material is any easier than another. That's about where they hang up the phone.
