No, that actually makes perfect sense- a rocker doing the Kamikaze down a tree lined rutted path. Hell, you could probably get Keith Richards to do that!

First connection I saw was in early 70's, riding in a road race with Gary Fisher. He had some decal-free orange bike with the sticker from American Beauty on it.
