I have a black bike with red and white trim... and a white bike with black and red trim. I think I see a pattern here. Except I also have a red bike (they're faster you know), and a really pretty (IMHO) bright yellow bike. Oh yeah... and another white bike with purple trim.

I have no objection the new stealth-looking flat-black bicycles ether.

I guess I really don't have a "personal preference of colors". And I hadn't really thought much about the safety factor. Or ever considered bicycle color as it might relate to "theft concerns". My choice of bike does lean towards a bike looking attractive. And although I can't describe what makes a bike look attractive.... I know a pretty bike when I see one.

I prefer light colors because as a driver, I seem to notice them sooner.

That's what I thought, too, especially at night. Good to have this confirmed by a driver.

Light color makes a bike stand out, which may attract a thief's attention, but I wonder if thieves regard stealing dark colored bikes safer because they may find it easier to get away without being discovered (other factors being equal).

I prefer blue bicycles. Most of my bicycles are blue ... various shades and hues.

But I've also got bicycles with yellow, green, titanium and purple.

Depends on the bike and even the shade of the color. Some blues look great to me. Others not so much. Grey and silver always seem to look nice. I do like the all black stealth look. Don't care for white, red or yellow bikes. Just depends. I definitely don't like the looks of bikes with garish logos all over the frame.

Last Spring I had the intention of buying a bright red Synapse but wound up with a flat black Anyroad. I feel that my lighting both day and night is a bigger factor in my safety than the bike color. Drivers see my day flasher before they see me.

I tend to prefer all black bikes, but my bikes are old school steel frames with leather saddles. Black bikes hide dirt better and seem to grow old more gracefully as the aquire the inevitable nicks and scratches.

As to safety, i use lights and usually wear a hi-viz vest. I don't however wear black headwear while riding. I have a light colored helmet or a hi-viz cap.

Never would have thought I'd like a two toned blue bike but that Cannondale really has two sharp looking shades.

I like colors, usually bright. As far as conspicuity for safety, bikes don't present much area, especially from behind, so I think it's less of a factor than bright apparel and bright blinkies. I want to improve the odds of catching a motorist's attention when he/she glances up for a second or two while texting.

A good example about the bikes and the jackets too.

I've noticed the safety yellow, and, the new orange really stand out in all lighting conditions. I have jerseys and jackets with the yellow.
From a distance much longer than in your photo, when a few cyclists are standing together, all I can see is the yellow jacket on one of them. I'm talking about being so far away, you can't even be sure they have bikes with them.

The color of most of my bikes are whatever color they were when I found a bike, or frame that I liked for other reasons. I painted two of my old bikes black. The black shows touch up paint and, paint imperfections less.

Some people may prefer not to be noticed in the neighborhood every time they ride, so they may not like a bike that stands out too much. Some enjoy the "spotlight" and use bright or fancy colored bikes.

What about the thieves' psychology? They notice a white colored bike locked to the pole sooner than a black one, but all things being equal, they might find riding away with the black one is easier for them. Also most cheap mountain bikes ridden by pizza delivery guys are black. Many expensive high end road bike are white. So that may be the impression to thieves.

This is from the view of someone living and riding in a populous city. It's a different story if you ride in scenic mountains, etc. (which I envy).

I got my bikes in what color they came in ,

I only pick the color on repaints, but its not an it wond be stolen if I paint it such and such decision ..


I Moved to a smaller town , my folding bike comes inside with me. its green FWIW.

You could Study for a MD & PhD in Psychology, they generalize too ..

Anything, other than black, white or red. (Good thing I'm into old bikes, 'cause I'd be pretty much out-of-luck with modern ones, considering that 99.9% of 'em are freaking BLACK!)

I prefer blues and greens. Gold is nice too.

I'm into hi-vis, but as @Machka points out, bike color isn't an issue when it comes to visibility...you just don't see the bike. And at night, all a driver will see are lights and reflective materials)

So many beautiful colors in the world, I REFUSE to have a black bike...or car.

Jens Voigt in the 2013 TdF had that baby blue color Trek. That's one color I would not want for a bike.
