Bikes: Jamis Coda Elite - custom 1x9 setup

Wheelset options

I'm slowly upgrading all the parts on my Jamis Coda Elite hybrid so that in 1-1.5 years I can then throw all these wonderful parts onto a high end steel frame that I will purchase. The next part I need to buy will be the most expensive, the wheelset.

I was looking hard at the Mavic Ksyrium's at around $1K but that is just a bit too expensive when it's possible I can spend $500-600 and only gain an extra hundred or couple hundred grams?

Riding: Bike paths, bumpy pothole-strewn city streets and cobblestone. Jumping curbs, etc... Nothing off road.

Must be for disc brakes.

Not sure if I should look for a mountain bike wheel vs a disc-compatible road wheel. How many spokes I really need (I weigh 180), etc..

Currently running a 1x9 drivetrain but am more than open to upgrade the rear cassette and derailleur/shifter to 10 or 11 speeds as part of the process.

Anybody have any suggestions?

If you're jumping curbs and hitting biggish potholes you'll want a robust wheelset. There are a number of good, not-too-terribly expensive disc cx wheels. For example:

wiggle.com | Fulcrum Racing 5 LG CX Alloy Clincher Wheelset | Road Race Wheels

I would call a famous wheel builder and see what he recommends and can quote you

Hey thanks. Just looked them up and they've got pretty much what I've been shopping around for!

Most post shopping suggestions I just DIY on wheel building

QBP, the big distributor, has a wheel building section, since they have a warehouse of all

the parts they need to build wheels , the costs are lower . they ship them to Your LBS.
