Bikes: 2017 Day 6 Cyclone (the Buick); 2015 Simcoe Deluxe (the Xebec); Street Strider 3i (the not-a-bike); GreenSpeed Anura (the Black Swan)

I looked at the site ... unless I'm misreading something, this is a two-day course--?

Save the money and get yourself a library card.

This one? E-Bike Technician Training ? Light Electric Vehicle Association

It is a $500 course. While I am in no position to judge anyone else's personal financial situation, one should be able to easily pick up some odd side jobs to come up with that amount of money.

As far as the kits that you can purchase, do it the way that every other automotive tech acquires their tool set: slowly building it up AFTER you gain employment.

Certifications speak far more to employability than "I read it in a library book".

Around here we predict the coming of spring by the horses' coats. They're starting to shed already, which has Good implications. Six more weeks of winter would be an early spring for me.

Now there's a novel idea, and in this day and time! Actually WORK instead of like so many we see, walk around with your hand out, or worse, GoFundMe. How about instead of YouFundMe a site called: YouGoWorkForIt

Why would you even need a grant for a two day course? Just plop down the $50 or whatever and take the course.

So, you're looking for an E-Bike repair class? Or perhaps an E-Bike to get to school?

What are your goals? Is there a job at a local bike shop that you're wishing to apply for? Or are you wishing to start your own bike shop?

Many businesses have programs to help facilitate their employees to take training and certification courses.

So, one option might be to talk to a perspective employer. Demonstrate that you have the necessary background for the job, and ask if there is a way for the employer to sponsor the course.

I don't know much about what a bike shop owner looks for in a wrench, but in IT experience speaks far more to employability than certs. (except for some very difficult to get certs such as a CCIE, which you should have some experience before attempting anyway) If you don't have experience, then the certs may get you an interview for an entry level job. I would say put the $500 toward purchasing an e-bike kit and an old mountain bike and get your hands dirty. There are a lot of online resources for learning how to work on an e-bike.

I haven't got a clue what ebike shop owners look for either, but I'd tend to believe it would skew more towards the automotive world where certifications are indeed relevant. After all, it is a motorized vehicle, with a heck of a lot more liability if your guy screws up and someone winds up hurt than running a help desk. Heck of a lot easier for someone without training to screw up electronics and for your shop to eat the cost of repair than it is to damage something mechanically, as well.

Anyone here run a bike shop that services ebikes?
