Bikes: Propel, red is faster

Here's why IDGAF:

Social norms over what is OK for public wear has gotten to the point that people wear things they used to ONLY wear for working out, in public and even at work.

Call it sexist if you must.........but yoga pants. C'mon. Give crap to cyclists wearing lycra when on a bike but free passes to the other stretchy butt pants crowd?

In general in the US nobody really dresses more "formally" in public anymore. Just watch a movie from probably through the 40's or 50's. Nobody is out in tennis shorts or riding clothes in public.

Nowadays, all of it is a "go".

FWIW, my wife can't stand bike clothes OR people in yoga pants.

But, it's soooo aero.

Went to see my counselor the other day and noticed one young counselor dressed in Yoga leggings. I mean she had a gorgeous figure but really...in an office environment? Politically correct run amok? You be the judge.

Bikes: ...a few.

'Norms' are relative to the community in which you live, and are always evolving anyway. We are constantly pushing the limits of what is considered 'acceptable attire'. If you're comfortable and confident in what you wear, whatever you wear, I'm all for it. No judgment here.

It should be different if social norms dictate it should be different.
I couldnt care less what others wear in public as long as its appropriate for kids to see. So basically anything but swears and sex on shirts is fine by me.

More yoga pants in general.
If guys want to wear tights, go right ahead. They won't look any dumber than the skinny jeans group whose pants end above the ankle.

I do see some guys in tights at the grocery store. They are also typically in a wind jacket that is more form fitting a d they are overall skinny.
They are clearly dedicated runners who enjoy athleisure wear.

Your quoted question though... i t made me chuckle as the logical conclusion is men in bras wearing diamondnmounted wedding rings because you commonly see women wearing those things.
Thats cool if guys want to wear such things, but its hardly a well accepted societal norm.

I don't own any tights, or lycra for that matter.

I don't really care what other people wear either.

Its always amusing to watch people who obsess more about the appearance of their cycling equipment rather than the function.

Fine if you live alone on an island. But there's more here at stake than just your comfort.

LOL, that's exactly what came to my mind. Despite political correctness at the moment, "what is good for the goose, is not equally good for the gander."

If a male needs a bra, he should make the choice to wear one.
If a females does not need a bra, it should be her choice to do so (or not).

Social norms and decency are culturally variable.

Fully kitted "real cyclist" do look rather cartoonish. So if you go into store etc, just keep your helmet on. People will ignore you.

Park a few blocks away, ride the bike to McD's, get off, straighten your dark glasses, unfold your cane and take your seeing eye dog out of the crate pannier...

I wore tights to the brewpub after the spin class tonight.

Nothing weird happened.

I'm 6'4, my cycling buddy is 6'6. The helmet would add another 4" of height? I'm thinkin that might be the opposite in my case.

Sure, the guy can wear a bra and the woman can swing free.
Agreed.

People may do both, but overall, neither is a well accepted societal norm in the US right now.

But wear what you want. You don't need anyone else's approval to do it. Who cares what some small-minded stranger on the internet thinks?!
It's actually fairly significant. Cycling Weekly did a test comparing how much power it took to ride at 40kph between t-shirt and shorts, typical cycling kit, and a skinsuit. The difference was pretty large (285 watts for t-shirt and shorts vs 257 for a regular cycling kit and 252 for a skinsuit). So basically you're looking at a 10% savings in energy.

Spelling it out on the internet isn't advertising?

That's an absolute no no... Real men don't do that.

I don't care if society accepts it, I still wouldn't do it.

Curious: What store do you buy your real manhood in, and how much does it cost?

I'm getting bored with this whole "developing character' thing my folks taught me.

Doesn't matter what I think. Do what you think is best for you and I'll do what I think is best for me.

I am curious as well. Seems a few posters on this thread are frequent shoppers there.

Well.. to each their own. I just figure, if manhood is based on the clothes one wears, I might as well shop in the right places.

I think a lot of posters misunderstood OPs original question. ..OP was asking about wearing tights for casual purposes and not when riding a bike.
Personally I always wear baggy shorts over tights even when riding a bike or exercising.
