I believes it actually refers to Iggy Pop achieving fame after a several year lull.

Well now you've done it. My pet peeve is every engine-powered boat referring to their powertrain as a "motor". Motors are electric. Engines use combustion, be it internal combustion, gas turbine, or any other. But the umlaut is just out of place anywhere on Enginehead.

- Battery powered electric motor assisted, gasoline engine driven and charging, parallel hybrid. (early Honda system)
- Gasoline engine generator and plug-in battery electric motor, series hybrid. (early Toyota system, but with additional plug-in charging)

Motor (noun): A device that changes electricity or fuel into movement.
I couldn’t find a single dictionary source which limits “motor” exclusively to electricity. The term “electric motor” exists as a category of motor.
“Engine” on the other hand only applies to liquid fuel or steam, which is why you never hear the term “electric engine”.
So I would say your pet peeve is misguided.

The car mags have correct descriptions, I forget what they are. Off the top of my head, some possible examples:
- Battery powered electric motor assisted, gasoline engine driven and charging, parallel hybrid. (early Honda system)
- Gasoline engine generator and plug-in battery electric motor, series hybrid. (early Toyota system, but with additional plug-in charging)

Sometimes the scientific or engineering definition is not the only one. Plus language evolves and mis-usage becomes common usage and therefore accepted, understood, proper. I have a lot of words I don't agree with (I was born in the early 50s), but what the hey, they're real words now. Ginormous changes in the language all the time.

I just ran this through a few dictionary checks and they all state meanings to this effect:-
Motor (noun): A device that changes electricity or fuel into movement.
I couldn’t find a single dictionary source which limits “motor” exclusively to electricity. The term “electric motor” exists as a category of motor.
“Engine” on the other hand only applies to liquid fuel or steam, which is why you never hear the term “electric engine”.

“Motorbike” is more commonly used than “motorcycle” in the UK. The latter is considered a bit old-fashioned. “Bike” as an abbreviation for both motorbike and bicycle is also very common here. But the word “biker” is used exclusively to describe motorbike riders.
”Bicyclist” is another American term I find a bit odd. We just call them “cyclists” in the UK. It makes me wonder if Americans use the term “tricyclist”.

Personally I call them, cyclists. So why don’t the Brits pronounce the letter “g” on words ending in “ing”? instead its, “in”.

Wikipedia has a single page for engine/motor. If you search wiki for motor, it redirects to this page:-
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.p...&diffonly=true
If you still think “motor” only refers to “electric motors” then you are being stubbornly ignorant at this point. Do you have a dictionary? If so look up the word “motor” and you will see why we have words like motorcar and motorcycle etc.
If “motor” was exclusively electric then the term “electric motor” would be redundant.

I, OTOH, looked it up in the dictionary - you remember dictionaries? - and definition 2b for "Motor" is "Internal combustion engine". So, there's that.

I say we go back to the language of 1904. What say you, wheelmen and scorchers?

I get slightly annoyed at hearing Brits' and Aussie's version of a knobby tire, the "knobbly".
They do the same thing for the carburetor. Our shorthand word is "carb", there's is "carby".
They both sound like something a child would say.
