I should complete the challenge with my ride home from work tonight. I may already have it in the bag.

Turns out I had it beat before I even went to work, somewhere around Nerang on the pre-dawn ride this morning. Total distance now 3,482km or 2,159 miles. I think there's still close to a month to go isn't there?

I log my miles/time in my own custom spreadsheet.
Sorry to hear my last post got lost.
I'm up to 1080.94 miles as of today. But it should go way up this weekend since I'm doing a 184 mile charity ride on the C&O Canal. At least I'm past the halfway point.
I really need to start cranking out more miles. The last 3 or 4 weeks have had me really dropping off on my miles due to travel and some bad weather. Not sure if I'll be able to do the needed 1048 or so miles need in the next 26 days... but I'm gonna try.

Actually we have until Oct. 27. That gives us almost an extra month. Now that the weather has cleared, I should have over a thousand by Monday. I’m afraid it’s going to take a lot of work on my part to catch up to you P.B. Walker. It’s good incentive. We’ll be fighting it out for last place if I can pick up my pace a little.

9/5 - 46 miles today for a total of 2090. I'll finish tomorrow. I figure I'll probably come in 2nd or 3rd place in the TDF. I would slow down, but this crazy lady on bikeprolog.com is forcing me to ride against my will. I thought I get a comfortable margin on the Summer Challenge and then coast for a while. She must ride everyday. I look at the mileage and see she is closing the gap and I have to ride. I want to start running and swimming because my new goal is a trialthon in the spring. Looks like it will be after 9/22 before I start my new training program.

It's just as well I finished when I did. Today was the first hot ride of the summer, and the bushfire smoke didn't help things at all, in fact, it almost caused me to bail out of this ride completely. 225km last Saturday and I destroyed it. 140km today and I still feel like crap - even after getting home and sleeping for a hour. Still, at least I discovered a new ride that, on a better day, is definitely worth doing.

The longer this goes on the better I'm feeling and have gotten so much faster.I have lost 18 pounds (down to a 29 waist size) and increased my average speed from 19mph to 23mph.
Thanks everybody for the competition. It has made me a happier and faster rider.

Much as Cipo does, I have seen the lime-light and have since abandoned the competition. Life and life's challenges have overwhelmed my bicycle racing ability for the present and fore-seeable future. Shucks!

This mourning I started out at 2:00am eastern rode 37 miles in near freezing temps 38F.Then called in sick to work.(yes me bad)Just to see if I could finish in the top 3.I then rode another 24 miles.
Total-2134 miles
I kind a like this idea of getting payed to ride.

As of Sunday (9/14/03) I am at 1385.63. I had a couple of weekends where I got in alot of riding lately. I think I'm back ahead of the average I needed in order to finish all the miles. I figure I need a little over 18 miles per day to do it.
I'm getting close to being done with Stage 13 now. Assuming the hurricane doesn't put a damper on my riding this weekend, I should finish that stage this weekend.

It looks like I take 3rd place. I have been swimming and running and got tired of biking--only about 20 miles away from 2nd place. I got to learn to finish. Went on another bike tour, TRIRI, a ride in the "Little Smokies" of Indiania. About 370 miles for the week. Now back to my triathlon training. I want to get serious. Good luck to the rest of you. Don't give up.

Well, guys. I’m going to have to abandon. With my wife’s schedule, the weather, and a cold that I’ve had for a week now, there is just no way I can put the miles in necessary to complete the tour. I haven’t ridden in over a week.
Good luck P.B. Walker

Thanks Random. Sorry to hear you need to abandon.
As of today I'm at 1681.35, which puts me on Stage 16.
I should be able to finish it in time, especially since I have a century ride planned the following weekend.

Late entrant here. Missed this one till now, with my away time and computer down time.
Anyway from my first ride over this period (14th july) I have covered 1,894 miles,so weather permitting (its suddenly turned wintry in this part of the world) should complete the distance in the time.

As for today, 10/7/03, I'm at 1833.05, which puts me in the middle of stage 17. I'm a little under 300 miles from finishing and I have a century ride this Saturday, so I'm feeling pretty confident about completing this challenge.
An additional bonus: I just hit 5000 miles for the year on Saturday (10/4). At the current pace, I think I can get close to 6500 for the year... which would totally blow away the 3500 miles I had last year.

Frustrating time, this week. no rides since last Saturday.
Gale force winds have been blowing since then and out of the north, making it feel very cold.
A lot of mileage to make up in the time left, even allowing for an immediate improvment in the weather, damn it!.
