Activebody is getting popular, CLint! Got an error this morning...
Warning: mysql_connect(): User active8_activewe has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections in /home/active8/public_html/php_functions.php on line 4
I cannot connect to the database. Make sure that mysql is installed and that you are trying to log in as a valid user
Good Work!

I wish it was getting popular but I think this is a error that has nothing to do with users or the number of connections. What is not helping is that all the tech-support people at my hosting company are out for the 1st... grrrrrrrr!!!!
Sorry folks... it will be back up as soon as I can get someone in support to help...

Don't sweat it too much Clint. It will get back to working status when it does we are not going anywhere.

Hey Denver,
be sure to refresh the page a few times and it should go through. If not, then delete your temp internet files and try it again.

Thanks for the congrats y'all
I panicked when I realized how little time was left, but I hit the "groove" on my two rides on the 29th and 30th and got 'em all in with one day to spare
As for the $1 challenge SinG, I have a better idea (maybe). You a fan of the LAF? Or perhaps a particular MS-150? Let's put more $ on the line but put it towards a charitable cause. My mom has MS, so I tend to lean in that direction (an MS-150 is what got me back into cycling), but I'm also a big fan of the LAF. I saw we pony up $5 or $10 to the winner's charity of choice. I'll have you know my goal is 2,004 this year, which may or may not be a lot by your standards.
Actually, my bigger goal is to lose 40lbs... That'd make me a lean mean 220

Clint,
As always, I LOVE the page. I wonder if you'd be willing to add one more tiny, teeny, itsy-bitsy thing
Under the "Week Mileage, Month Mileage, Year Mileage" numbers in the upper-right, could you maybe a "Lifetime (or Total) Mileage"? That'd make figuring out the total miles we've done easier (though I'm not sure that for me adding "1,000" should be terribly difficult
)

Clint,
Though I'm hesitant to suggest this, you might look into that 1and1.com hosting deal. not sure how much you pay to host ActiveBody.org, but it might be a nice free backup in case your host decides to mess things up one day (as they always do) or decides your money just isn;t good enough anymore. The offer ends Jan 24 and I'm not sure how solid they are (I;ve heard extremely good and pretty bad) but if nothing else, it might be some free hosting space in a pinch.
Also, I'd like to see some kind of voluntary link to PayPal (if you're not against it) so people could help you out with "bike upgrades" in exchange for such a wonderful site.

Thanks for the tip on the 1and1.com. I've been burned before on deals before. I find that in most cases if the deal is to good to be true, it is. I was taken about 8 months ago by a company that had the "deal of all deals" and so many people signed up for the deal they could not handle the growth and crashed hard, and I had a years worth of service paid (only used 2 months). I've found a pretty good company that has a bit slower growth plan and thus can handle it's users in the support area. The issue we had yesterday was more about having an issue over a holiday and thus I only had email support. The support was great, just a bit slow over email. If I had the same issue today, I would have phone support and had the issue cleaned up before anyone even saw the problem. In saying all that... it's ALWAYS good to have options and thus I thank you for the tip on the 1and1.com hosting company.
On the PayPal issue... At one point I had a link up to the ADA since I did the Tour de cure last year and I didn't get any takers... thus I thought something like paypal would net the same response. I don't want to look to greedy to be honest, I'm just glad people like using the site! Keep an eye in the forums perhaps.

Actually willic, join BikeForums as well. Since you can be a member of two teams, you can beat up on us Yanks on one team and them join us on another as we, um, try to, um, beat the other teams somehow... Hmmm. Anyway to have team challenges Clint? Maybe based on average mileage per rider?

I'm in the process of building a report that will list out the miles and overall avg speed for each team and rank them. Should be what you need at least to "check-in" on other teams.

$10 and If I win you donate to my cause which is likely to be the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer).
Oh and as I work for TREK, yes I love Lance and the LAF.

Have fun! It's a bit cold here for that kind of miles, but I'm sure we will pass the 1st place back and forth all year.

Ahhhh... Nice to have a math teacher on board. My dad is a math prof and my brother has his phd in math... Me? I do computers!
His avg that his teammates see is the avg of all his rides... So if you have 1 or 2 rides in the middle teens (say 15/16mph) and then another ride with a low avg speed, then that drops your overall avg down.
I tend to like this model then to just add up the miles and distance and create an avg.
Thanks for the question.
PS - Nice job putting those miles on Denver! Keep it up!

Well, with the current temp -10F, and a wind chill of -24F, and my work schedule and the short days, and everything being iced up, ets., these are all inside miles. But, I think I am being quite fair in my estimated mileage, given the effort I put into the trainer, my heart rate, time, etc.
Anyway, it is just for fun, and it does motivate me. I did TWO 45 minute trainer sessions today!

What I like about it is that it shows the general avg and you have to get lots of rides in at a specific level to get your avg up... you have to work hard is the way I see it... Perhaps in the future I'll change it... but for know people tend to not be too upset with the way things work.
Great job on the trainer work. I'm in Madison WI and we have about 6/7 inches on the ground and temps in the single digits to sub zero (wind chill is well below zero). I'll still bike into work (about 12 miles round trip) but everything else is on the trainer. Sad but true.
thanks,
Clint
