jeez, Davet, I wish I had your disposable income! :D. Nice bike. How do you like that shallow drop handlebar? Its a ritchey, right? I was thinking of putting one on the touring bike I'm upgrading.

Davet 04-05-03 09:47 AM

Phat: The bar is a Ritchey WCS. The reason I use the WCS on all my bikes is because of the relatively short reach and the very wide (for their size) tops. Makes for a lot of places to put my hands. I like to ride longer distances (60+ miles) and spend a lot of hours in the saddle., so comfort is a real priority with me. Another thing I do is use cotton bar tape as an under-wrap, and cork tape as usual. More shock absorption and a better grip.

Just got my new Scapin EOS3 frameset. Columbus Nivachrome steel tubing and carbon fork. Will be putting together with a Campy Record 10-speed group and Ksyrium wheels. Will post again when complete.

Marlin523 04-06-03 09:23 AM

I have a Seven Axiom w/campy record and an older Bianchi w/campy nuovo record. Both are ten speeds! - ha

ParamountScapin 04-06-03 11:05 AM

Marlin523 - Am wondering how you got your NR group to work with a 10-speed cassette? I understood the best with that particular rear derailleur was a 7-speed cassette.

Davet 04-06-03 11:13 AM

Maybe his are 10-speed, 2 in the front and 5 in the rear.

ParamountScapin 04-06-03 11:23 AM

Using common refernce terminology in bicycling, the number of speeds refers only to the rear cog set. i.e. DuraAce 9-speed, Campy 10-speed, etc. Has been this way for many, many years. But, perhaps you are correct and Marlin523 does not subscribe to common useage.

Davet 04-06-03 11:58 AM

Marlin523 is using both sets of terminology. His old Bianchi, using Campy NR is a 10-speed, 2 in front and 5 in the rear. His modern Seven Axiom is using Campy Record, with a 10-speed rear cluster. Very clever!

ParamountScapin 04-06-03 12:11 PM

To use Marlin523's term, "Ha". Clever, indeed. And I was obviously too thick to catch it.

I have a 2002 Lemond Buenose Aires.

Switched from Ultegra to Campy Centaur/Chorus mix (Chorus levers, crank, BB:Centaur derailures and brakes) and I just ordered up some Record hubs that I'm going to build onto Open Pros. Also ordered a King heatset and Thomson stem and seatpost. After that, I'll basically only have the stock frame and fork left.

shokhead 04-08-03 02:16 PM

How do you like the Buenos Aires?Been looking at that and the Zurich.

Did you upgrade the components yourself or did you work out some deal with the shop? How much extra did you pay?

slide13 04-10-03 07:28 AM

I'm loving the Buenos Aires. Great riding frame for a great price.

I actually work at a bike shop so I got all the parts at cost (which beleive me, isn't that much cheaper then you can get them for online) and sold my Ultegra groupo. I did a mix of Chorus levers, crank and bb with Centaur ders and brakes. (also ran a wheels MFG cassette on my Bonty wheels but now I have Record hubs and a Chorus cassette on the way as well)

In the end, the groupo change (not including wheels, but including that Wheels cassette) cost me about $175, which was money well spent IMO. I installed everything myself.

Ah yes, the perks of working in a bike shop. If only I was so lucky!!

I bought this Batavus Kayenta a few months ago here in the Netherlands. It has the Shimano Nexave 400 - (24 gears, roller brakes and the dynamo for the front light is built into the front roller brake). The front light comes on automatically and there is no additional drag when it comes on. I haven't taken the front brake apart, but I assume it uses magnets to generate the electricity for the front light.

The handlebar can be easily adjusted and this is accomplished by simply moving a lever ... I've made adjustments while biking (probably not a smart thing to do). This bike cost €900.
