yep, mostly. I put fenders and a rack on her and swapped out the old rusted Vbrakes for some newer parts bin ones. The tires are old and crusty so those are next. No pics yet.

Used the summer sale to order a Fx s4. Already own a verve 2 that serves me well on all type of trials
Once I started doing longer miles with groups, felt the need for speed. For some reason I'm not comfortable with drop bars. Love the flat/ upright position and ordered fx 4 for speed on roads
Changed the saddle to Bontrager commuter gel and tires to 700X32 Bontrager H5 hardcase Ultimate (puncture resistant)
Can't wait to take delivery this Friday

Two days early for the sale, but I found a LBS with 2 FX3s. I got the red one. They put it together in an hour. Had it over a week but no miles yet. Too much smoke from all the fires settling in the valleys here.

As I try to do every year, I post when new models become available. If anyone is in the market for one, 2019 Trek FX's are now out and on their website. Not sure how long they've been up but they usually update the site in July/August.
Great time now to pickup 2018 models that are sitting on dealer floors collecting dust. Bring cash and haggle haggle haggle!!

And since this is a forum, I am just going to post a couple of things: 1) I don't like the FX series going almost entirely disc brakes and 2) the color choices in the last couple of years have sucked. grays and blacks..... how exciting.

Totally agree with you there! If I buy another FX, it will be a second (or third or fourth) 2014 7.6, used or new-old-stock. No disk brakes wanted in this household.
Can't agree with you there! I'd rather have my my bikes be as inconspicuous and as unattractive as possible!

And as unadventurous as Trek have been with their FX line up in terms of colour, if you really want to see something depressing, go to Specialized's hybrid range and their Sirrus' and Crosstrails are dominated by black coloured bikes.

Hey guys,
Was just about to drop $1500 (Aussie dollars) on a 2018 Giant Toughroad, when I realised there was a local Trek store only 10 minutes from me.
Had a look at a few of their bikes and two stood out (in my price range):
2019 TREK FX 3 Disc ($1099 AUD)
2019 TREK FX S4 ($1499 AUD)
The S4 is around 2kg lighter and has 2x10 (as opposed to 3x9) and slightly better components.
Few questions:
1. Do people think the S4 is worth the extra money over the FX 3 Disc?
2. What do you think of the S4 frame colour? I know colour is not important but I want to enjoy looking at my bike. I can't decide if I hate it or love it.
3. I will be doing 80% on road and 20% light gravel/dirt/firetrails....will both bikes be ok with this? (they both have 32 tires)
4. The FX3 has Bontrager H2 Hard-case Lite, 700x32c tires. The S4 has Bontrager AW1 Hard-Case Lite, 700x32c. What is the difference between H2 and AW1 and what are they suited for? Neither of these are tubeless, are they?
5. Whichever bike I'm getting, I'm thinking of swapping the tires to Schwalbe G-one Speed or All Rounder (in 700x32). Hoping that would make either bike even faster on the road and better on the gravel. Thoughts?
Sorry for all the questions, thanks very much!!!

I have the rim brake version of the FX 3, which I love. Better derailleurs on the S4, both have carbon forks, the frames are a bit different with some differences in geometry, and I've never ridden an S4. FX 3 has 3 chain rings, S4 only has 2. I think you need to test ride both to see whether the differences matter to you and whether either frame is a better fit for you. Neither tire is tubeless. I replaced the H4 on mine because I wanted slicks for road use, but they seemed fine if you want to try them out before deciding whether to replace them. I think I did a century on them without a problem before I swapped them out.

Thanks very much mate!
I like the 2x10 on the S4 (vs the 3x9 on the FX 3).
I also like the frame and components make it 2kg lighter.
I also like the cables are hidden inside the frame (which FX 3 doesn't have)
I read a few reviews and people have said the S4 is really, really responsive, nippy and a fun, fast ride.
Sounds like I'm making my mind up
Now to decide which tire as I want something that handles gravel a bit better than the stock standard ones (yet still fast on the road). The three I am looking at are:
Schwalbe G-One Speed (700x35)
Schwalbe G-One AllRound (700x35)
Panaracer GravelKing SK (700x35)
Wouldn't mind getting the tire with a brown sidewall too which I think will compliment the metallic frame nicely. Thoughts on tires?

Yep going tubeless. The bike only allows up to 700x35. 35 is as big as I want anyway.

35 might be the official number this is why I said "squeeze". Personally I would be slightly put off by these numbers. I guess it depends on the kind of gravel and fire roads you ride. It's easy to put narrower tires on a bike with more clearance than the other way around. When you say the FX S4 is 2kg lighter is it comparing to the Toughroad or to the FX3? The S4 is one sexy bike but the Toughroad might give you more versatility should you want to ride some rougher stuff.
