Had an old school steel-is-real bike ride today. Took in some of the majesty of some mid-Atlantic fall color (although we're just slightly past peak here). This is at Shenandoah University's Cool Spring campus, a property sitting on a Civil War battlefield (Battle of Cool Spring). There was once a golf course here, and SU is returning the property back to nature (reforesting the fairways, etc), but maintains the cart paths and property as a nature preserve. Wonderful weather to enjoy a crisp Sunday afternoon in early November.

Sounds like a really nice ride, and you gave me a nice history lesson.

I can almost feel the fresh fall air by looking at those photos. Ah, the nostalgia!

So I went for an exploratory ride today, there's a new path near me (only 1.6km) and a nearby park that I'd never been to so I thought I'd check them out. Sun was out but wind was up a bit, still a lovely afternoon.
Glad I did the new path the way I did, it was all downhill for me. Would have been 1.6km of hard slog otherwise. Noted for the future.
I got to the park and it was terrible. The concrete path wasn't very wide, was all cracked and broken up and grown over. I was glad when I emerged onto the road again but not entirely satisfied. I spied another entrance a little further up and, with time on my side I thought I'd give it a crack. It was worse. The path was barely a path, all soil and roots and heaps of stairs (grr). Not nice at all. I was hoping the end would come quickly when I happened upon a little bridge so I crossed that, went around a blind corner and...

Been doing some work at the Grand Canyon and brought one my bikes this time, didn't have too much time to ride, it was getting dark but I did make it up the hermit Road to the Abyss... It's nice because they close the road to cars for the summer, only a few buses to contend with.

Rode 25km this morning. Was going for more but had to turn back early in the ride due to mechanical annoyances.

Just bought a WSD Cannondale Quick 5, any of you have one of theses? I took it out on the Virginia Capital Tail and a few others for some 10 mile rides the past few days. The fall colors are so amazing this time of year!

Two of these mounted back to back on the top tube, they work great.

oh interesting. that looks a lot like this bag I got for a corner in the back of my Cherokee, but it wound up just in the cargo area, not using it for much. wonder if it would mount up like yours. you do any special mod? doesn't appear to be bike specific

Took the Ogre out on a gorgeous 60 mileish Florida day down through the beach, and of course I had to stop for Beer & Tacos. I thought this photo of my Surly was appropriate.
Here’s my ride, I stopped at mile 24 (for a beer or 6) and I forgot to turn the Cyclemeter back on until I got to mile 25, whoops.

Sounds great - and a beautiful day for a ride along the beach! A friend of mine posted some FB pics from his ride to Treasure Island today - amazing displays of the sand art contest on the beach there.
