I work for a moving company unfortunately. (my last day is Friday ) Today the guy we moved had a north face bike. I have never heard of one before and could not find any info on them online, even at northface.com. Just wondering. Peace

On the other side of the fence.... I most likely would not buy them due to my fanatical hatred of all things North Face. I think, I may be wrong, that they are nothing more than re-badged Iron Horse bikes. Or maybe it's Marin. At any rate they are not BAD bikes if your definition of bike means two wheeled object that is pedaled to achieve forward motion. The few I have seen in various stores are all entry level to lower middle level MTBs. The problem some might list is a lack of LBS support. You can easily sideswipe this fiasco with some tools, patience and the ability to read. If you want this bike because it says North Face on it I would recomend hitting yourself in the head with the largest ball peen hammer you can find. Buy a bigger one if you don't think your current hammer is up to the task. The object will be to cave in the vast majority of your skull, this should curb any desire to own "quality" North Face crap. Marketing hype and reality are worlds apart. I am refering only to TNF's lame perception by slack jawed yokels. The bikes maybe fine as they are only really corrupted werever the sticker is on the frame. Of course the sticker will fail magnificently at any and all inoportune moments. Pick up the latest edition of Vanity Fair to check out the newest direction for all nifty North Face apperal. They own and market them you know.

I sense some passive aggression towards North Face. Okay, maybe not so passive. Tell me, would a rubber mallet do in a pinch? You could use it over and over til the job is done...or til you make it to the hardware store, whichever comes first.

A pathetic comment; especially in light of the fact that I purchased a NorthFace bike and in dirt crit races I did much better than many of the kids that had bikes that were "entry level" to "upper top level MTBs".

These kids were too funny. They were fat and then their bikes were loaded with computers, also they used clipless pedels and wore jerseys; yet they were behind me -- "Catch the guy on the Yavapai Northface".

I don't believe so but I purchased one and it has held up very well. The price was also great. I have yet to have a LBS tech tell me that he can't work on it because it has unique parts and features unseen.

Are these just rebaged IH's or made by the same designer with the same materials and whatnot? After I got yelled at to search the forums before asking a question I searched and some guy kept saying in the other thread that they are not rebaged. Anyone out there know for sure?

Jameson, what are some specific reasons you dislike TNF so very much? Just wondering.

My understanding is that Galyans sporting goods entered a licensing deal with The North Face, which is why they are not advertised on the TNF website or widely available. Galyans blew out a bunch of inventory as they were being absorbed by Dicks last summer.

The bikes themselves are licensed through Iron Horse, the frames are the exact same Hollowpoints produced in the exact same factory as the Iron Horse product, but come with a different paint scheme and a different component spec as worked out by Galyans.

Now now, leave the most powerful man in the world alone...

"The North Face" is a trademark used to extract a premium price on what otherwise would be cheaply made, inexpensive import clothing and other Chinese-made goods, nothing more.

If you do, please refer back to the ball peen hammer, and yes, a rubber malllet will work until a suitable metal hammer can be appropriated.

It appears that I have Shimano V-Brake housing and cables..... that then attach to some Hayes Disk Brakes.

These brakes stop the all durable WTB wheels. Apparently, this brand makes wheels that are "premium yet affordable --- and designed for XC racing and aggressive trail riding."

I have MYTHOSXC Tires (mythosxc). I search on the web and apparently these are cool.

TRUVATIV Crank -- apparently they also have a website.... I'm reading that some of these components are placed on downhill bikes.

I have some Forte' pedals with pedal cages, all of which I added myself.

Alivio Shimano Rear Derailleur -- this website below gives a review of this one... 3.5/5 rating....

Does anyone know of free software or shareware of Photo manipulation that gives a "Resize" feature. I have InfraView, which is free, but I don't think it lets me re-size a pic.

My lower middle level bike frame was a GT stickered object. It was free and I happened not to like the color. I repainted it. So, yeah, no advertising there. My North Face hatred is actually about half humor; I see you don't get it. Some people don't. Why would you assume I have a Cannondale?
