Yeah, 'cause, lord knows you couldn't possibly ride techy trails with 26" wheels. For the chunk and trialsy stuff around here, I far prefer the small wheels. I gave the 29er thing a good try, and it sucked. For me at least. http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=491856

Today, at Miller's Pond, with my kiddy wheels.

Little hop over a root, perpindicular to the trail sets you up nicely for the corner.

TGMBG gathering - PNW Edition 2010

A small group when everything shook out. Never and his friend Chris came down from Calgary, my friend Ben up from Palouse, WA and my son over from Bellingham. It was a great weekend though. Spent Saturday sessioning Beacon Hill's DH trails and everyone getting their flow on.

After a day of pushing, we rewarded ourselves Sunday. Loaded up for some shuttling goodness over on Mt. Coeur d'Alene. Recent blowdowns had rendered Trail 79 (Caribou Ridge) a flow-killer, so we moved over to Trail 257 for the rest of the day.

Loaded and ready

A couple of real chuckleheads. Chris driving; Never shotgun; me almost falling out of the bed leaning out for the shot.

View of the hard way from the easy way. The shuttle road (Forest Service) is paved most of the way to the top .

Chris pinnin' the 257

More photos to come. I played some with my point-n-shoot but Chris became photographer de rigueur due to the fact that he had the lone SLR.

never 05-25-10 09:47 PM

That last pic looks neat! How do the SLR pics look? Chris is lazy so he won't get around to them for a while.

dminor 05-25-10 10:41 PM

Dunno yet. I've been lazy and bad too. Burning them off the laptop and onto CD as I type this so that I can check 'em out at work tomorrow. I'm confident there'll be a ton of good ones. DSLRs make the anyone's shooting look good (tell Chris I said that :D) - - and there's enough pixels there for cropping to mask bad composition (ya, tell him I said that too, haha).

never 05-26-10 01:03 PM

Don't worry, I tell him stuff like that all of the time!

SORRY, did I step on a nerve, didn't mean too. I'm still reading the different thoughts and trying to wrap my head around the difference. Your pics show you have a real command of that "Kids" bike. :innocent:

I'm still 26ing. since I mainly ride for health I haven't been able to jsutify a couple grand for a 29er. Maybe I shouldn't.

dminor 05-26-10 03:01 PM

More shots from last weekend. There are a ton but this is a tiny extra sampling:

Never off Rushmore:

Buddy Chris on the Anthem drop. This one was bugging me all last season. Plan was to get it by the end of this season.
Breaking in this years season pass, I crossed it off the list today. :)

Awesome.

Spotted this couple while shuttling this afternoon.

Sorry about the quality of the 2nd pic, had to zoom and was a bit shaky.

Rushmore would look better if the wood ramp wasn't there.

dminor 05-26-10 09:42 PM

^^ Agreed. It actually used to look impressive with just the gap and the dirt landing. Had a real commitment factor then.

Before the wood, and before most locals had hit it, I booted it in spandex, on a HT with the seatpost all the way up (once)

Sorry I could not make the ride, apparently there is a bunch of stuff I have to do in the hot desert - anyway, I gots to ask - did you boost the "girth".

never 05-27-10 02:14 PM

No, we didn't do Girthmore. :( No one in the group had hit it previously so we opted for a no...plus Doug and Chris kept bringing up things like early in the season, don't want to get hurt, etc. ;) I was feeling good but would have liked to train someone who has hit it and rides like I do. Apparently now I have to go back at the end of the season and hit it!

mechBgon 05-27-10 02:26 PM

I got out to the second Wednesday-Night Race at Riverside, which was run on the 24-hour course. There's new singletrack down the left side of the road at the top of 5-Minute Hill, a bit lumpy. Knocked out a 50:49, good enough for third place behind two of the fastest locals, KBP and Mike G :)

dminor 05-27-10 02:35 PM

Impressive! KBP is an animal.

I had a Fire Dept. pack test last night so had to miss. Will be there for the rest of the series, although at a much slower pace for sure.

Hey, stop goofing off and get that Yeti put together!

Gotta love the weather in the mountains...a snowy ride around the property at the end of May.

Whoa! That's awesome . . . in a twisted way. BTW, you grow hair fast; you weren't nearly that shaggy when you were down last week.

never 05-31-10 03:10 PM

And we got more snow the following day. Now it's rain and warmer temps so everything is melting fast.

Guess I should go shave!

dminor 06-01-10 07:21 AM

Guess that explains why you prefer to lap beer from a bowl too :p.

never 06-01-10 08:52 AM

Dammit, I didn't think anyone was looking!

dminor 06-01-10 01:58 PM

No biscuit for you.

Anthem looks like a good-'un. Just saw a pic of Covanent - - what's it like?

MindlessDeviant 06-04-10 03:42 PM

Had some great fun on a newly built dirt bowl/halfpipe added to the middle of a local trail down here and then the fun was ruined by an awkward landing off a 4' boulder drop to flat that ended in a horrible pinch flat and no spare tube in my kit and left my duct tape in the truck. Oh well got to hike the bike back to the truck for 2 miles and now I think it is time to convert to tubeless.

craigcraigcraig 06-04-10 09:38 PM

went over the bars tonight. was fun but my hands hurt.
