It's really disgustingly humid today, after raining most of last night. Greasy, slippery rocks. However, the traction on the dirt between all the rocks is f'ing phenomenally awesome. (yes, different tires and jersey in the pics. tried something different for a tire combo, and it sucked in the wet. zipped home quick-like, swapped tires and tops, since it was so damn hot and wet out.)

tuesday evening ride

tuesday evening, 75 or so degrees, we went for our tuesday evening group ride up 18 road. nothing too huge tonight, we were going for pizza and beer afterward. parked up at the campgrounds, had a pre-ride PBR, for carbs and hydration, then, bombed Kessel run down to start with (instead of the usual finishing with kessel), road Prime Cut up, and instead of riding Zippity decided to take it easy and ride Joe's ridge. The sun was in our eyes a fair bit, casting odd shadows on the trail or blinding you when you come around a corner, and making things a tad bit more...."exciting" than normal. overall a fun ride. Tom (in orange) and Steve (in yellow) are the guys riding down Joe's ridge

Arizona Trail to Fisher Point

Trail - Arizona Trail
Time - 3 hours
Miles - 20 total - 10 on the trail.
Weather - Its monsoon so it was overcast and wet.
Trail Conditions - Damp with a few puddles.

I just started riding a week ago and I'm in love with sport. We live in Flagstaff and there's a lot of local trails. Anyway, I wanted something more technical than the FUTS, and I got it. I rode the Arizona trail south from Flagstaff heading toward Fisher Point. Definitely going back tomorrow with more daylight ahead of me. The pictures below don't capture the beauty of this place.

Ever Since my Accident I've been relegated to the roadie beater (kill me now!).
Went out the other evening & since I was near Green Mt, I decided to roll the lower section to see how badly the ribs/leg hurt.
I survived, but I can tell it'll be another week till I can ride for real (meaning true off-road)

Made the annual trip to Salida to ride Monarch. Drove three hours to the Monarch Park campground, conveniently located just down the hill from the start of the ride, $15 a night, can't beat it. There is a cool little historic cemetery next to the campground, we snuck in at night (had to hop a fence) and checked out the old wooden headstone on one, and the marble headstone on the other, dated 1831. cool if you like that sort of thing.

woke up next day, had enough people to drop us off and leave the car at the end of the ride, so we didn't have to pay for a shuttle. it always rains on monarch, but the weather gods smiled on us that day, it was sunny and perfect, dry and clear all day. Weather and views were absolutely glorious. that first climb really sucks, it's not long, but the initial oxygen deprivation gets you. i had to convince my mind i wasn't suffocating. after that, the rest of the day went smoothly, my body accepted that i just wasn't going to be getting as much oxygen as i was used to. the Sound of Music scenery made up for it though, i kept expecting julie andrews to pop out and start singing. views were spectacular. it was sort of crowded, lots of groups, we kept leapfrogging with one group. people were pretty considerate, they would pull over and get out of your way. after the first major climb, the trail turned into east coast North Carolina/Maryland riding, with soft loamy earth, pine trees, roots and some rocks. Reminded me of riding years ago and it felt great to ride that again. Fast swoopy downhills, more climbing, more fast swoopy downhills. the climbing really wasn't too bad, you spin, you take a break and look around, before you know it you are at the top. ate some food, drank some beer (a bit too much possibly, at altitude it sneaks up on you quick) and then the final downhill. the final descent down to the Rainbow Trail is sort of crappy, loose gravelly rocky crap, a bit rutted, but still fun. the Rainbow is sort of like Tsali used to be, and then it all ends with a 5 or so mile road ride, all downhill, into town to the car. in town we stopped for icecream, then went to Moonlight Pizza on the corner of 3rd and F in downtown salida for kick ass pizza and black jack porter beer. Five of us rode, two flats incurred, six beers consumed on the trail, no injuries, overall, pretty effin epic. if you have never ridden the monarch, come to colorado and ride it. it is seriously worth it.

Next time, try doing Fooses, Greens Creek, or Agate Creek - if you've not tried them before. Not as long overall, but the descending is way, way, way better. They are short enough that if you got going early enough, you could do two in a day. I've done the "standard" Monarch ride twice, and wouldn't touch it again in comparison to these others. (agate is actually across the other side of 50, but still spits you out down the road. one of the most kick-ass fun descents in the state, IMO.)

Start early, hammer it out. Get back to the car you've left at the drop point. Chow down. Do another lap of one of the other trails. Kick. Ass.

(the crest "regular" is still a really awesome ride and worth doing if you've not done it, but if you've done it, check out some of the other routes down.)

Stayed up all night so I could hit the dirt before the sun came up. Pedaled out to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail (Ogden, Utah). Fun as always, round trip was about 2 hours and I even shaved off a half hour from the normal ride time (my buddy didn't come with :D). On the way home I couldn't avoid running over some glass on the side of the road. Cars psh. As I looked up after avoiding as much glass as possible a tree decides to smack me in the face. Woo, so glad i slapped on some sunglasses. Needless to say the coffee and redbull have worn off. Time to hit the sack.

so jealous of all the riding, 2 months off working as a lifeguard in the Adirondacks has been such a tease. I am back in Texas though and will be riding soon!

Couple days of playing. Wilton Woods Wednesday. A two-fer yesterday. Wiltonin the morning, and Trumbull in the afternoon with a buddy. Blue Mtn. over in NY today. The acorn carpet going into some of the corners is a little sketchy.

No pics, but I was having a great ride with a friend of mine at one our favorite trails. Made some of the technical climbs, going smooth through the trees, felt pretty good. Then my wife called.....

My wife had to go downtown this afternoon so we were going to leave our 13yr old in charge for a couple of hours until I got back home. No big deal, we have done it before. Well, about an hour into the ride, my wife calls and says she has to drop the kids off with me on her way downtown. Turns out 20 minutes after my wife left, she got a call and just heard the kids screaming at each other, so she went back to the house grabbed them and called me on her way downtown.

Needless to say I was a little upset. Made sure the kids understood that they not only blew our trust about leaving them alone and my ride, but also my friend's ride since we had to cut it short (he wasn't going to ride alone). I love my kids more than anything, but sometimes......

Rode the Mtnbike today with Hambone,Girlscout and Ms Hambone and the Lil' Hambones. Fun time.....that is all

Rode a trail up near in the Sierra Nevadas in Strawberry/Pinecrest on Saturday. (on left)

Nice ride with beautiful weather, 75F instead of 95F for a change. Slightly muddy at first, but rest of trail was good. Didn't break the bike or me = good ride.

A buddy finally got a bit of footage together. This is a chill lap down some flowy, jumpy trails at Panorama Resort.

Very cool, man!

Heck...no rocks or roots on those trails...you could be on rigid SS 29'ers.

Yes, a rigid 29er would be the ideal bike for those two trails!

You could maybe shred faster if you use narrower tires like a 2.1" with low profile knobs...maybe some of those Hutchison skeeters 'r' sumthin...food for thought, I guess.
