Jamis???

What are the Jamis hardtails like?
This bike is the best hardtail I have seen in a while!!!

I don't hear much about Jamis and no one recommends them. Are they any good?

I agree the komodos look great but I have heard negative comments about their weight and general angles.

guess a test ride would sort that out though. the general concensus seems to be that there are better bikes around for the money.

Can't say anything 'bout the Komodo because I have no personal experience, but I can speak for the angles on my Dakar. This bike is rockin'.

I hear that Jamis Customer service is awesome as well.

I sell Jamis. They are one of the few companies still dedicated to the hardtail in a big way. My daughter just built up a Dragon frame. The Dragon is their steel hardtail. She loves it. And that is high praise from someone who knows her hardtails. If my Rocky Blizzard ever dies, I can see a Jamis Dragon as a possible replacement. Their geometries are quick in the front end which she and I like for the technical riding we do here. Yet they offer a predictable and stable ride when the going gets tough. And being steel, the harshness we both dislike about alloy frames is muted somewhat.

Bikes: Trek Jack...trials bike soon.

I have a friend who had a komodo. It's definately the worst freeride hardtail I've EVER tried. I tried doing some basic things, bunnyhops, trackstands, surges, lurches, and I had to put every effort in my body to do them, and they were all miniscule. The bike seemed wayyy too long and the angles were really really weird.

I would strongly discourage anyone from getting a Komodo.

rocky rider, the komodo 1.0 is cheeper than the 2.0, but i'd say the 2.0 is the better deal, mainly b/c of the wheelset. sure, all of the components are up on the 2.0 compared to the 1.0, but for the intended use of the bike, i'd definitely want the eyeletted wtb dual-duties, rather than the eyelet-less ones on the 1.0. for the small premium, i'd say you're getting a better deal. that being said, i dont think the spec on the 3.0 is worth the premium it commands over the 2.0.

i know some ppl around me riding komodos, and they all love their bike. that being said, none of them are really using it as the kind of bike that it's been marketed as; they just kinda ride it around, without doing any freeride or "urban" stuff on it. from what i've seen online, most folks looking to do 'urban'/freeride stuff don't dig the komodo's geometry. fwiw, the jamis rep recomends getting a smaller size than you normally would.

As has been my experience with most of the ones I have sold from other companies. Rocky's Flow works better smaller than sized for XC riding. As do the Fujis also. The classic mistake I made when this type of bike first came out was to try and put people on the same size frame they used for XC riding. I am glad I always get folks to try several out to see how they fit and get their input on the ride. I learned a lot just from watching the better riders test spin them. And my own test runs helped imensely also.

Yes it is most of the time. But like anything in Life, the good always has a flip side. I do love the business of selling and repairing bikes. It is all the annoying things like rent, payroll, all the things I need to do to keep the doors open that can tend to wear me down sometimes. Each Fall, I feel like I have been beaten hard and put away wet. I sometimes wonder if it is all worth it. But then come Spring I am at it again.
