That's fun, Tim.

What are you building BTW?

TimJ 03-23-09 04:45 PM

Thanks.

I got an older Trek 930 via police auction a couple years ago, true temper OX steel, finally got it stripped and powdercoated and finally have had some money to put into building it. It'll be modest but still a solid XC rig, I hope. I just rebuilt the 2001 psylo I got for it over a year ago, right now I'm just waiting on a front derailluer and I'll be able to finish it up.

Here's my MB-1. Put together mostly with 92' XT and LX with XTR hubs. Love this bike. Thinking about throwing a different stem and drop bars on it. We'll see.

2008 Zaskar Expert Disc

Always wanted one - finally could afford one.

So far, pretty much stock - but that's all gonna change ... soon

Ordered some panracer xc fire pro's with the yellow sidewalls
New seat Forte Pro SLX (need to adjust it)
Aluminum OS Riser Bars
Switched out the Candy C's for a pair of Shimano M747's
and I'm looking at some Spinergy Xyclone Enduro Disc's

My first bike was a Karakoam...

rode the HELL out of that thing and coveted the Zaskar - it was stolen one night while I was hanging out at a bar.. never to be seen again...

Keeping my eye out for one again, as well as an older Zaskar or XinXang - gotta be XL - cuz I'm a big ole clyde!

Peace!

I was in a shop just this afternoon and I saw a XaiXang frame only just hanging up on the wall. How you liking that Zaskar, I'm torn between getting that or the Santa Cruz Chameleon. The 2009 Zaskar with the full SLX.

New Chain?

Dannihilator 04-01-09 10:51 PM

Went to an 8 speed chain, and swapped stem and grips.

yellowjeep 04-01-09 10:57 PM

Still one of my favorite bikes on here

Luke52 04-01-09 11:12 PM

I liked your blue chain, Dannihilator. Was a nice touch.

dminor 04-01-09 11:21 PM

Looks flexy.

What's the story with the Saint arms?

my first bike, dated back in 1994. rebuilt it, upgraded all the drivetrain with XTs of the same year.

I was talking about the "tape looking" stuff on there.

dminor 04-02-09 09:26 AM

^^ Right about at ankle level - - a bit of inner-tube-rubber padding taped on there?

Crast 04-02-09 04:54 PM

My first MTB since I was a grade schooler :o I splurged just a bit, got me something with Juicy 7's and mostly XTR. Fork is Rock Shox Revelation, which I understand is mid to lower end, but for $1200 we can't ask too much. Weight (18 inch) is roughly 28 lbs as I measured standing on the scale with it.

Although I've built enough road bikes, MTB is a bit foreign to me, so some of it is a bit weird. Apparently I need a special pump to put air in my Rock Shox? I'm guessing I need to go a lot more pressure, since I'm a 260lb guy. The booklet suggests as much as 175 psi.

With the lockout set on, I went for a ride around my complex parking lot. The disc brakes, which aren't even worn in yet, are incredible. Shifting is crisper than the 105/ultegra on my road bike, and I like the multiple clicks in both directions on the levers.

This is going to be so fun.

Yes, you need a shock pump. You can get one at your LBS for about 20 bucks. Also, the Revelation fork is quite nice and well-liked. Not something you really ever "need" to upgrade.

Excellent, thanks for the tip. I don't plan on changing anything on this bike, other than maybe putting my usual M520 SPD pedals on there. Gonna pump up the shocks, throw on some barends and ride it like there's no tomorrow. :D

BRING IT

Are you challenging the no-name brand bike, or telling me I'm a wussy because I bought a high-tech magic bike instead of an old steel rigid Real Man(tm) mountain bike? =P

I've been chasing after my friends on the trail on my cross bike mashing with insufficient gearing the last few months, so I think it's high time I got a real XC bike with a granny.

(PS: I am a wussy anyway, and I need all the help I can get. And XTR is soooo blingy.)
