That's fun, Tim.
What are you building BTW? |
Thanks.
I got an older Trek 930 via police auction a couple years ago, true temper OX steel, finally got it stripped and powdercoated and finally have had some money to put into building it. It'll be modest but still a solid XC rig, I hope. I just rebuilt the 2001 psylo I got for it over a year ago, right now I'm just waiting on a front derailluer and I'll be able to finish it up. |

Here's my MB-1. Put together mostly with 92' XT and LX with XTR hubs. Love this bike. Thinking about throwing a different stem and drop bars on it. We'll see.

New Chain?
|
Went to an 8 speed chain, and swapped stem and grips.
|
Still one of my favorite bikes on here
|
I liked your blue chain, Dannihilator. Was a nice touch.
|
Looks flexy.

^^ Right about at ankle level - - a bit of inner-tube-rubber padding taped on there?

My first MTB since I was a grade schooler :o I splurged just a bit, got me something with Juicy 7's and mostly XTR. Fork is Rock Shox Revelation, which I understand is mid to lower end, but for $1200 we can't ask too much. Weight (18 inch) is roughly 28 lbs as I measured standing on the scale with it.

Apparently I need a special pump to put air in my Rock Shox? I'm guessing I need to go a lot more pressure, since I'm a 260lb guy. The booklet suggests as much as 175 psi. With the lockout set on, I went for a ride around my complex parking lot. The disc brakes, which aren't even worn in yet, are incredible. Shifting is crisper than the 105/ultegra on my road bike, and I like the multiple clicks in both directions on the levers. This is going to be so fun. |
Yes, you need a shock pump. You can get one at your LBS for about 20 bucks. Also, the Revelation fork is quite nice and well-liked. Not something you really ever "need" to upgrade.

BRING IT I've been chasing after my friends on the trail on my cross bike mashing with insufficient gearing the last few months, so I think it's high time I got a real XC bike with a granny. (PS: I am a wussy anyway, and I need all the help I can get. And XTR is soooo blingy.) |

Are you challenging the no-name brand bike, or telling me I'm a wussy because I bought a high-tech magic bike instead of an old steel rigid Real Man(tm) mountain bike? =P
