For the record. Signed, Your Editor P.S. - - Why is it not incorrect to say/write "AN historic moment" even though the consonant 'h' is pronounced? |

This has been annoying me a lot lately. Is it "an LBS" or "a LBS"? I don't know if its supposed to be "a local bike store" or literally, "an el bee ess"
The basic rule for "a" or "an" use is, use "a" in front of anything that starts with a consonant "That's a banana." or "That's a bike." Use "an" in front of any word that starts with a vowel. "That's an apple." or "That's an omaplata, *you bad ass!" If you were too switch the rule around... a apple a omaplata an banana an bike You can probably "hear" how it sounds funny, and that's why. * mtnbiker66 I'm just joking. Breaking stones. |

If you are saying it conversationally, it would be "an LBS" - - 'an' before the vowel-sound 'ell'; if you are writing it, technically, it would be "a LBS" because LBS is shorthand for the consonant-sound start of Local. But we all talk conversationally here anyway, so it doesn't matter really.
For the record. Signed, Your Editor P.S. - - Why is it not incorrect to say/write "AN historic moment" even though the consonant 'h' is pronounced? It looks like we're best friends now. You want to get together and read books about mountain biking? Or mountain bike over a buncha books? P.S.S. - - Why is it correct to say/write "AN hour" even though the consonant "h" is pronounced? |
I understand the whole a/an thing, just more of when you type LBS are you literally typing LBS or just abbreviating local bike shop? Which do you think when you type it?
|
And we've hit an all time low here on the Mountain Bike forums. It always seems to coincide with the TDF. What gives?

Ahhh man. I forgot to add "not" before pronounced. Not pronounced, even though it's not pronounced is what I meant. You win this time. |

Haven't been around much lately mostly been lurking over in the TdF threads, I got a new road bike to replace the to small Bianchi. 86 Cannondale with beat ass blue pain that I think I am just going to leave as is. I need to install my headset and run cables and it will be rideable. After that I need to find some tubulars that are more that 18c wide and don't cost 75 a pop and glue them up.
That said T minus 5 days until I head to Breckenridge. It will be my friend's first time mountain in the actual mountains. Should be a good time. |

Thank you b2b.
I forgot to mention it, but 2 weeks ago I wen OTB on to some concrete slabs used to make up a creek crossing and scraped and possibly split my chin pretty good. I say possibly because I had a pretty good beard going at the time. Fast forward to 3 days ago and I could feel the scab/dead skin combo ready to come off. Along with it came a nice big chuck of my beard and I had a nice bald spot on the left of my chin. So I shaved. Does anybody know how long it might take to get that spot to grow back. I have a pretty good bit of stubble back but it still doesn't look right. |

Just spent a week near Pisgah. Without a bike. Story of my life. But on the bright side, I'll be spending two weeks in Colorado with a bike. Specifically, I'm going to be in the San Jwans (3 hours north west or so of Durango) any recomondations? I'm going to be in Durango on friday (in 6 days).
