F no, would you want somebody like Pcad at home? She figures if I'm on the bike:
1.) I'm not at the titty bars
2.) I might get flattened by a car and she could collect the life insurance
And it helps me maintain my girlish figure @ age 50.

I am in constant danger of overdosing on endorphins. But it's worth the risk. Looking forward to getting out in the woods on a weekly basis. Helps my road cycling enormously and serves to remind me that no matter how insane Road Nazis may appear to be, MTBers are crazier still.
This bike is my fourth hard tail (Trek Alu rigid fork, Jamis Dragon, Jamis 853 Dragon, Moto Fly Ti) and by far the nicest MTB. Full suspension for me would be such silly overkill. It would be like Chipcom getting a PowerTap.

Pcad is doin' great. I find his post both entertaining and full of good info. I would love to see the Pcad on the trail one day.

Just make to to pickup his wreckage while you pass by, we have to keep the trail clean. But, perhaps you meant see him RIDING on the trail...

where about in NY is chester? not that I want to stalk you, but if your trail is as amazing as you say and I find myself there I would love to see what pcad is made of.
back on topic... I have met lots of people who spent >3k on their first road bike...mtbers with bikes over 3k normally are on their 3rd or 4th bike and have been riding awhile. Not as many rich 30-40 year olds breaking into mtbing as much as midlife crisis dads with $$$ getting into road stuff. As such a larger amount of mtb riders start entry level and work their way up, where as entry level road bikes get ridicule, or at best a "well at least he is biking" quasi insult

Pcad rides alone. In the woods Pcad is a Complete and Utter Wussy. I have no desire to share my secret trail stash with anybody. But if you're so inclined it's Goosepond Mountain State Park in Chester, NY and they don't charge admission. They have one part time park ranger, and he can't even keep the kids and their ATVs out of there most of the time.
The best part about Goosepond is that it's not too technical. I never claimed it was difficult, I said it was Big Fun. If you want technical there's plenty of crap in this area that's pure Rock/Root Garden Hell, so you can crash and scrape your knees and curse and fall to your heart's desire. Fortunately there is some stuff that's more fun to ride on too.
