Looking for new suspension fork

I have a 2000 Gary Fisher Sugar 3 which has been a great bike for XC riding. All the components are still working well, but I think the front fork (Manitou SX 80mm) has seen it's day. So, I'm looking to replace it with something simular. I would like to keep the price under $400 and so far the best value I've found is the Rock Shox Tora. Any other recommendations? Air or coil - which is better? Would appreciate any advice.

For 400$ you can find better than the Tora. Look around more. Recons are easy to find under 400$

Heckuva deal right now through RST USA for an '08 80mm F1rst Air for $179 . . . or with remote lockout for $209. Ships out of Portland, OR.

https://www.rstmtbstore.com/f1rs.html

That gets you an under-3½-pound air fork with 30mm stanchions, rebound and compression dampening circuits and handlebar-mounted lockout lever.

They also have '08 100mm Titan Airs for the same price.

Lots of deals on eBay, especially if you use the 25% cashback through live.com. I just bought a brand-new 2008 RockShox Revelation 426 Air w/U-turn+Pushloc for $449. Used my 10% eBay coupon and only paid $404, plus I'll get $112.50 cashback for net price of $292...

If you can get a Reba or Revelation for your $400 price range...jump on them. The Tora is a very nice fork, but the Reba will match the light'ish XC temperament of your Sugar.

My bad, I was looking at the factory specs for the '09 which says it's 1.54 kg, which translates to 3.39 lbs.

And of course it's a pitch, Ed . I knew I'd get beat up for this one but, hey, a guy's gotta represent. Besides, top-of-the line product from them is a far cry from the entry-level OEM stuff one generally sees.

Good job D, now I'm looking at the Titan Air in the 100mm again.
