Ahem...any cred for serious vintage?
I thought about converting my '84 Trek 830 to a touring bike, but decided to leave it original. But this Terranaut (at or about the same year, judging by components and geometry) is definitely going to fill the bill. Actually it will do better, it has double dropout eyelets. https://by2.storage.live.com/items/C...=1&ck=0&ex=720 |
You've GOT to post a cockpit shot.

Is this what you're looking for?

Here is my other one. I've posted it before, but since you seem to be easily impressed.... :-)

Dropped my Lefty for a Salsa Cromoto Maxle fork. |
Not amazing, but fun enough for what I paid for it. I plan to build up a 5-6" all mountain bike when things stabilize financially, probably a 5 spot, 575, or Blur. It really depends on how they feel on the trail. Meanwhile I'm riding (light) all mountain on borrowed time with this:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-U...0/IMG_0337.JPG Frame: 2000 Rockhopper Fork: Suntour XCR-RL Brakes: Tektro Brake Levers: STX Cranks: Truvativ FireX with Deore XT chain rings Front Derailleur: Deore mega 9 Rear Derailleur: Deore XT Shifters: Deore XT/Deore 9s Pedals: currently using flats, but will be changing back to SPD when I get new shoes Stem: Stock 100mm Handlebar: cheap riser Seatpost: stock Specialized Saddle: WTB Speed V Comp Bottom Bracket: Truvativ GXP Cassette: XTR 12-32 Headset: generic Grips: lock-ons Tires: Vredestein Black Panther 26x2.0" Wheels: Deore LX hubs, I forget what rims Future additions: - Thomson 70-90mm stem (still deciding) - dropper post - possibly an Easton carbon bar - Toupe 130 team or SLR Ti saddle (still deciding whether or not my style of riding is too much for one of these) |
I got this a few weeks back:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-D...%252520020.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-J...%252520012.jpg I also have the Peugeot Orient Express (pictured below). I tried it in Chino Hills once, but it seems to work better as a townie. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-k...%252520007.jpg |
My new-to-me frame with modern parts hung on it. My new favorite bike!

Loving that on one and the fat chance. Excellent work.

Oh you guys actually like vintage?? How about my chrome 84ish Ross Mt. Hood?;) It's little cleaner now, and I wish it fit me better. It's one of the original American made mountain bikes. Tig welded instead of lugged. Almost unheard of in 84.,,,,

Took the plunge today!!!!
Tried out Specialized, Jamis and Trek. Jamis didn't feel as good as the Specialized and the Treks were more expensive for whatever reason. Specialized had close-out deals on their 2011's so grabbed up a 2011 Hardrock Sport 26er. Apparently it's one of the last 2011 Hardrock sport 26ers in the area. Lots of 29ers though (I'm not saying 29ers are any worse - I wouldn't know, but it seems like a reason there's a push for them at bike shops is because, well, you pay more for them [Hardrock sport 29er was about $80 more]). http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...1&menuItemId=0 Sorry for the weird camera shot haha. My regular camera was taken out by a freak accident involving a two-year old and a stick. So I used my GoPro lol. http://i54.tinypic.com/2qa6c09.jpg |
Noice job, ESW!
So Dan...how much did you lose and do you notice it? When you gonna go 24? |

So Dan...how much did you lose and do you notice it? When you gonna go 24? It's set up as a 25x12 it's just a hair lower gear inch wise than I was running. The bike feels much more flickable now. I doubt I will go 24, the geometry on the dmr transition 26 is dialled for 26" wheels. |
I kick myself for missing out on a good ebay deal on a Transition 24.

My first mountain bike...
http://karik.smugmug.com/Photography...59_bbo3L-M.jpg ...is also my current mountain bike http://karik.smugmug.com/Bicycles/Be...99110915-M.jpg '95 Rockhopper 1st pic was a couple years ago, the 2nd a couple weeks ago. Dh gave her to me for Christmas back in 95/96. Originally she had a rigid fork, but somewhere along the line I picked up an old suspension fork...that now leaks like crazy. We updated a bunch of other stuff (mostly deore, 9sp, wheels, I can't remember what all). We've been road riding for a while now, with a little trail riding here and there. Been thinking this year we might buy new mtn bikes, but will never, ever sell the Rockhopper. Oh, and Dh rides an older Giant ATX 760(?). Guess maybe I should get a photo of his bike sometime. :) |
Glad you all liked the Mt Hood. I have a lugged Trek 830 that I may get back someday. It was a shame to lose it in the move, but I could only carry so much. I will probably be getting back my 88 C'dale M1000 sometime this fall. I missed it badly! The person I sold it to never rides it much anyway, and didn't change anything on it. It still has all the XT goodness, and black Nitto stem on it.,,,,BD
