Project Ghettoblizzard: Looking for advice

So, I've got this MTB project in the works right now. The problem with this scenario is that I am a track bike person through and through, and no approximately nothing about MTBs. Thus I've come here to get advice on how to approach this project.

The story so far:
I've got a 1992 Rocky Mountain Blizzard frame. It's super-badass. I've got a Bomber Z1 fork that was on it when I got it, from about '01. It's also pretty badass. The Deore XT cranks that were on it are triples, but I'm turning them into SS cranks as we speak. Other than that, I need...virtually everything. Wheels are the part I am most intimidated by, in terms of shopping for them and knowing what's good and what's not.

What parts should I put on this bike, MTBers?!

Bikes: Bike list is not a resume. Nobody cares.

^^"The way I ride requires the most advanced, badass wheelset's available"?

On a '93 Blizzard, I think he would need the most retro, period-correct wheelset available.
