hello all,

im looking for a full suspension bike which packs/folds.

i dont mind going slow and enjoying the veiws on the single tracks but it a bike for touring thus the potability is importantant. now the touchy subject yes i know big wheels are much more comfortable for anything other than tarmac, however i am willing to comprimise here for portability and ideally would like a 20" wheel is possible. (gasp) yes 20" wheels

i have done a great deal of researh and know what i want so please only post a FS bike thats packs/folds. additionally do you think i could get away with smaller wheels on this frame? e.g. see image below. ANd do you know what model it is? and if there are any others that can do it?

That bike is not what I'd consider to be a "folder". Your going to at the trailhead a long, long, long time getting that sucker ready to ride. If your willing to do that much dis and reassembly you can pick out almost any bike out there. Good luck.

I'm not sure you're going to find a full suspension 20" folding mountain bike. Montague makes folding mountain bikes for the military, but they're 26" hardtails, and how good they actually are is anyone's guess.

I would not put 20's on that bike you have pictured there.

Is this so the bike fits in your car? A good roof rack is indispensable.

Swiss bike, although not FS but if your pootling along enjoying the view, I geuss your not doing anything too technical. Do you really need FS?

i'm not sure you're going to find a full suspension 20" folding mountain bike. the airnimal rhino is a fs 20" bike, but i would like to know of others.

Do you really need FS? to keep it short and unsarcastic... yes, slightly longer... hardtails i find less enjoyable to control etc

vitcim iM intrested in a "travel/folding" bike thus 20min assembly is fine thanks. and the frame in the image below only removes the link at one point thus reducing the fab time

Not a travel with the least useful bike for mountain biking forum..” Thanks bikinfool ... you know what maybe i should get a rigid 29er ss because thats what all "mountain bikers" ride as apposed to having the most appropriate compromise which suits their individual needs for example a Santa Cruz Heckler, Santa Cruz Nomad, Moots YBB, Trek OCLV Pro Issue, American Breezer or a TST or Trek 2300 for the road.

I just can't part with any of mine. That's not just one Heckler, but three (one has 650b wheels, tho!).

Do you need to travel for your job on commercial airlines a lot? I could perhaps see a 20" wheeled folder in that circumstance. I hate flying commercial airlines let alone with a normal bike with them. I have yet to see a 20" wheeled mountain bike on trail (except for a kid's model), pretty much the only thing I've seen on the subject are this guy's series of posts on mtbr (this is the last one I saw, but has links to three previous ones) https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=465095

OK - coming out of the closet.

I ride a folder - ONLY WHEN I TRAVEL - I have ripped trail riders a new one all over the world on 20" - and I am heading out again on Monday for China - the bike rocks, but in the back of my mind I feel like a clown...... Not FS - and I don't need it.

Portland, OR - coming back from 20 miles off road.


Not A trail - but some of the bridges in Istanbul (last year) make MTB trails look like MUPs



Dude - if you really need a folder, get a pair - get a quality rigid folder and ride. Quit whining about what you need and get out and ride.

And the bottom bracket, cranks and rings. And the head set, handle bars, shifters. And the pedals, wheels, brakes. And the fork...

If you're going to entirely disassemble and reassemble a bike then there's no need to get a folding anything. Remember to pack all those specialized tools as well.

Also, Thatsut, you're going to need a few more tools and a lot more than twenty minutes to get a frame from the state in the first pic to a trail-worthy bike.

ok i dont want to go into that much deatail yet, but as you provoked me....

allen key to remove thredless headset which a seemed something is preferable so all stay on bike this enable removal of forks and bars. whells have QR.

no front derailer. rear IHG. Hollowtech crank (no crank pulley just allen keys)

so far.... crank, bars, forks, wheels removed ( note full cables)

allen key for rear swingarm.

grimlock. i havent even needed to mention a Spanner/rench yet...

it can be done... speaking as a guy who used to make bike when i was a kid. and a Man who is now a designer. this is easy, solving problems is what i do best, and not to sound crude, but the reasons others whom cant pay me.

Whenever I read your posts...I want to scratch out my eyes. As soon as txt went mainstream, people forgot how to navigate the QWERTY with regards to the punctuation and CAPS. I mean really thatsut...I know none of us are perfect...but we're not 14 years old either. Your posts are painful to look at. Ummm...spellcheck?

I'm confused. No wait! You're confused. Do you want a bike to ride singletrack(s) or do you want a bike to tour? Being that this is a mountain bike forum, I only assume the former...thus a 20" folding dually is about as brilliant as kicking yourself in the twig'n'berries. If you've "done a great deal of research and know what you want"...why are you here? Positive reinforcement?

A 20" folding dually is as worthless as the blue one you see above. Terrible idea. Ask Google about Burro Bikes. They make a good portable 2" travel rigid dually. (it may take a minute...but you'll get it)

I'd like to see the spec's on that torch...900lm is impressive and truly unbelieveable. Mine was marketed as 900lm, but the SSC P7 driven at a "fairly hot" 2.8amps is still only in the 700 range on a good day.
