Should I get this older Rocky Mountain? Or bikes direct?

Well, I'm looking to get into mountain biking, and do a little bit of everything. Some cross-country stuff, some freeride-y stuff, etc. I need a bike with around 5-6 of travel all around

My choices at this point are basically this 05 Rocky mountain Slayer that is in pretty good condition for $350... front and rear shocks are still very responsive, brakes are good, etc. Only thing is is that the chain and crankset are rusted and would need to be replaced, so actual cost is looking to be around $420 if I got some good deals

My other option is to just pay $500 and get this bike from bikes direct:
https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/dawes/rh_25.htm
Which, if it's a good bike, is tempting, seeing as it would be brand new and wouldn't require me to change anything out... I encountered this problem when buying a road bike late last year, but I know much less about mountain bikes, so here I am again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Get the Rocky.

A couple fresh parts on a RM Slayer will net you a better bike than anything bikes direct can provide.
