Depending on the manufacturer, the claimed size of the tire is not always accurate. For example, a kenda excavator in a 26x2.35 is a bit big for a 2.35(try 2.5) where a 2.5 maxxis is more along the lines of a 2.35. Since the season is pretty much over at the pumptrack, switched from the small block eights to something that won't slip and slide on the smooth surface of an indoor skatepark. In this case on with the G1 Experts, which are claimed to be 2.25, when I noticed on the inside on the casing26x2.50, took out the micrometer and measured the width of the tire, sure enough 26x.50.

Depends on the Kenda. The 2.35 Excavator is wider than a 2.35 Nev. The 2.35 Slant Six is narrower than all of them. I think for those...they're all on a 2.35" casing, but the knobs stick out further depending on the tread.



'Nutha thing to consider is a new vs. broken in tire. Remember back when I started a thread almost just like this when I first built the '05 Komodo? I was running 2.7" Nev f and a 2.5" rear. I switched to the 2.35 Excavator f and r. Initially...the 2.5" tire was nearly the same size as my older 2.35". I think the tire expands a bit.

Actually...now that I remember back...the Excavator casing is stamped either 2.4 or 2.5.

Gotta factor in the rim width... can make for some different measurements.

Yeah, tires are way different when I pull 'em off my 21mm Specialized rims and put 'em on my 30mm generic rims.

My 2.5 Excavators measure exactly 2.5" across the widest side-knobs; the casing measures 2.25, mounted on a 32mm rim. My 2.35 Small Block Eights measure 2.31 across the tread; casing measures about 2.18, again on a 32mm rim.
