Next week is fine for me

jyossarian 10-29-08 07:35 AM

I can't ride next week, but don't let that stop you. I can ride this week, but Pushing Daisies is on tonight! So how's tomorrow night. Warmer and mostly clear. Someone make up a route that takes us through egg-free zones.

pgoat 10-29-08 11:23 AM

oh yeah...I forgot about the TP and silly string factor:D

jyossarian 10-29-08 11:37 AM

Yeah, I don't know if kids will be celebrating early with shaving cream, eggs and TP, but the Hudson River bikeway has some pretty dark, unlit stretches north of Fairway. And that stretch by Trump world in the 50's is a good spot for an ambush too. Who knows, I could just be paranoid. Noteon and the others that ride that spot everyday would know better what it's like.

I agree with you there - does give me the creeps a bit especially late at night by myself.

jyossarian 10-29-08 12:08 PM

BTW, that new strip of bikeway near Fairway is nice. Mostly smooth except for some weird strip that was cut out and re-filled.

noteon 10-29-08 12:09 PM

The unlit stretch just shy of the Little Red Lighthouse does give me the creeps, but I also have to say I've never encountered a single person in there after dark. I think we'd be fine, but next Wednesday works for me as well as anything else.

Yeah, I forgot to mention when I saw--it's finally open!

Lucky07 10-29-08 12:26 PM

I rode that bit when I did a 3/4 loop of Manhattan last weekend. Big improvement.

jyossarian 10-29-08 12:29 PM

OK, here's my plan. I'm gonna watch Pushing Daisies tonight and do laps in CP tomorrow cuz the hills in Brewster beat my face in and stole my legs. And I only climbed like 50' or something pathetic. So off to CP for laps and that hell hill at the north end of the park. You're all welcome to join me and let me skitch off you up the hill.

pgoat 10-29-08 01:18 PM

when tomorrow? After work?

It's been a week since I rode - gotta ride in tomorrow!

jyossarian 10-29-08 07:04 PM

Yeah, after 7 pm when the park is closed to traffic. I gotta park my car tomorrow too. Maybe 2-3 laps.

pgoat 10-29-08 08:35 PM

Cool- weather should be nice! I am getting a sore throat, but if it doesn't get worse mind If I join you? I get out a bit earlier so maybe I'll scoot up there and try to squeeze a super slow warm up lap in.

jyossarian 10-29-08 08:57 PM

Sure. Meet up around 7 pm a the 72nd and 5th entrance?

stevesurf 10-29-08 09:53 PM

Cool, the rides are back! I have a trade show, but I'll bring the bike into the city

noteon 10-30-08 04:35 AM

I'll have to play it by ear. See you maybe.

pgoat 10-30-08 07:31 AM

i rode in this am - but throat is barking...taking all sortsa meds, hope to still make it for a lap or two...more news as this story develops

jyossarian 10-30-08 07:46 AM

Aiight. For those interested in watching me struggle up the hills of CP, I'll be at the 72nd and 5th Ave. entrance near the triangle close to the loop at 7 pm. I'll wait around 10 mins., then take off w/ whoever shows up. I'll be on a blue and white Schwinn Peloton and I look sorta like my avatar. See yooz there.

noteon 10-30-08 02:38 PM

I'm out. Have fun.

pgoat 10-30-08 03:11 PM

i'm 50/50 - spirit is willing but the flesh is meh

I get out of here at 5:45 ish, gonna try a solo lap in the park to test my mettle.....hope to see ya at 7.

stevesurf 10-30-08 06:46 PM

I hope you guys had a great ride; I actually overslept and had to run into the city for a trade show...first time in three days I slept more than four hours...

jyossarian 10-30-08 06:59 PM

Met up w/ pgoat and we enjoyed a couple leisurely laps around the park while we chatted. Frozen toes kept me from doing a 3rd lap so maybe I'll throw the Powergrips on the roadie. Saw two raccoons and had to pick our way around the finish line for Sunday's marathon. Good riding w/ you pgoat!

pgoat 10-30-08 09:08 PM

Same here! Sorry i forgot to point out those multiple electrical thingies on the sidewalk:eek: Look forward to it again soon - I could use more hill torture.

Hope to see you all out there before the winter sets in! Maybe next week?

Next Moonlight ride in CP? 11/7?

jyossarian 10-30-08 09:22 PM

I can't make the moonlight ride, but Air sometimes rides sweep on it and it's a very chill ride so I highly recommend it. Less crowded in the winter months, but plenty fun and real relaxed.
