Sounds interesting and I'll probably go if the weather holds up. Does anyone know if they close the GWB to bikes at midnight?

The path on the GWB is supposed to be open 6am to Midnight. I believe they are closing the South path for a couple of weeks again

Maybe a dozen showed up, but the ones who showed up without good winter gear peeled off early. I think eight or so finished.

Why yes, yes there is

6 PM - meet near the corner of 36th and 2nd (PM me for details and number). Probably do an upper Manhattan loop, stopping for some ribs and beer at Dinosaur BBQ's in Harlem. Full Manhattan loop is possible if people are interested and not completely frozen.

After midnight, not worried. Though maybe I'll fill the tires of the mtb just in case

Snow? We laugh at snow.

Unless it's acid poison snow. Then we still laugh, but it's not quite as convincing.

The city streets may as well be flowing with it considering all the salt and sand and chemicals that spray all over my steal bikes.

Brakeless freewheel? I wouldn't be comfortable either. Brakeless fixie = skidding in snow = fun for days.

Get some car wax and go to town, wipes right off.

Learn to skip and hockey stop. And throw a front brake on. Anyone who thinks less of you for running one is a moron.

Cross levers work well for bullhorns and drops. Mtb brake levers if you're using risers and V-brakes.

Hit up Recycle-a-bike for used brakes and handles. If they don't have good handles Nashbar. Done and cheap!

Two locations, one's in Dumbo and the other is on Ave C between 5th and 6th: https://www.recycleabicycle.org/

There's also an old shop on 6th between A and B (or B and C...pretty sure A and B) that has more old parts than new by the looks of it. Franks also on Grand street on the LES (few blocks away from the water). They should all have well stocked used parts bins.

And Times-Up can help you put it all together. Might also be a good place to see if anyone has an extra lever/caliper they want to trade/sell/give away.

As for bars, Sheldon knows all. Basically, get standard 25.4mm bars. 31.8 is oversize (OS) and the others are less common sizes. Cross levers come in standard 25.4 and OS 31.8 clamp sizes.
