6 Gaps was everything it's supposed to be. Not just 15,000 ft of climbing, but 15,000 ft of steep climbing, with long hilly miles in between.
Having climbed all 6 mountains (without blowing up or having to stop), I'd call the day a personal success on every level. Maybe next time, I'll be able to attack the climbs rather than survive them... but for now, this was a huge personal accomplishment.
Psychologically, tackling Lincoln gap first made all the difference. Knowing that whatever else is coming, its not as bad as what's already past let me ride without dreading what was ahead.
The morning was cold, but the night was colder. Or at least the last big descent was colder, coming down that thing at 50, soaked in sweat, with temps plummeting below 45, with no sun, and with no blood sugar...
Then the last 15 miles back up Rt 100 in the dark at a flat out sprint to get back quick and also to stay warm... it may have been the best part of the ride.

Anyway.. if the weather isn't all that great, I'm resorting to Alpine drive (repeats) and pecan pie. Who's in?

Just remember the MS Ride goes through the Palisades/9w this Sunday. Expect a (big) crowd.

Yo, why don't you wait up at around 9am at the entrance to the palisades park and hook up with us on the MS ride? Champion systems up front usually pushes the same pace we did that last time we flew up to nyack in the fog.

I'm in for sunday but up for leaving slightly later.
I'm getting home late sat night and would like a good night's rest.
Sunday looks beautiful though, looking forward to extending the riding as long as it stays warm.

I grew up in Yorktown and drove through the Bear Mountain area all the time way back when. Now I live in Houston, TX, recently took up cycling about 6 months ago and am extremely jealous of anyone who gets to ride in topography like that.

Work was awesome today! I'm glad I was indoor all day today. The weather today sucked for riding anyways.

Started a hair late but I'm glad I turned back at the deli station before bear mountain cause the headwind coming back sucked but I still made it back around 4. Nearly bonked on the way back after doing the last 50 miles on a bottle of gatorade and 2 gels after having squandered all the money in my jersey pocket on illegal narcotics. I'm not sure if those 2 took the train home or what after bear mountain.

Mazaev has been working hard... he stopped to take pics going up Bear Mountain... the came whizzing by my like a freight train. His climbing is really improving. He said he paid the price on the way back though... that the attack left him wounded from the Nyack climb all the way home.
We made it to Bear Mtn around 1:40... sat and enjoyed the view and the crowd then decided to ride back rather than take the chance on the bike passes for the train.
Taking off late, at 2:30... We stopped at the same deli on a 5 minute splash and go... I think I got 32 oz of Orange Juice and chomped down a clif bar. We ride the rest of the way back without stopping, straight down 9W bypassing Nyack and Piermont. We made it back in time to watch the sunset as we rode down the west side path.
It was a tough ride back... we cut the pace back just barely enough to make it sustainable and did the whole way back without any real stops. The whole day was a moving avg of 15.5 mph, compared to the 14.0 we were doing earlier in this year. Not terrible for a day with so much climbing.
