wolfpack is headed your way!
yep. you read that thread title correctly. i will be making a road trip to the NE area the week of Thanksgiving. plans are still tenative as to exactly where i'm going to be stopping, but i'd like to get to MD, then over to the harrisburg, PA area between monday and wednesday. most likely will be staying with nyguy wednesday evening through the remainder of my time up there, but, i want to also visit NYC for a day too - probably either friday or saturday (depending on the plans nyguy and i have for then). i might try to go somewhere on thursday too, but will have to see how much turkey i have! i'll be driving back home sometime sunday.
i'm trying to do this on the cheap-o side as well...so, i'm looking to maybe stay overnight with a fooster...all i need is a place to sleep/shower. no food necessary. i'll even have my sleeping bag & pillow so i just need a place to put it down.
i know a lot of people will be working m-w during this visit but if anyone isn't and wants to meet up for a ride, speak up! i'm just trying to get a small feel for what some of the areas are like up that way as far as if i might like to live there sometime. i know it's not a lot of time to see all that much, but it's the best i can do right now. if no one is available to ride, how 'bout offering suggestions that are safe for a solo female cyclist to ride? anywhere from 30/40mi up to a metric.
see ya soon!

PM me your mailing address and I'll send you a NYC cycling map. I'll be outta town that week, but here's a couple ideas to help you plan things out:
- Wednesday night: See the Thanksgiving day parade balloons filled on the UWS around the Museum of Natural History. Right next to Central Park for some good riding and lots of restaurants nearby. Or start out downtown at Katz' then ride up. Bring a lock.
- Friday: Manhattan will be insane w/ shoppers and tourists. So go to Central Park and go ice skating, then some lazy riding around the city seeing the sights. Bring a lock.

Plenty of places to ride upstate. Here's a good place to get started for route maps/cue sheets: https://www.roberts-1.com/bikehudson/
Friday after Thanksgiving can be nuts at Macys, Rockefeller Center, Times Sq., etc., but the city's easy to get around and still a lot of fun to hang out in.

Hi, Wolfpack -
I'm in the Hershey/Harrisburg area - would be happy to get out for a ride with you while you're here. I'll be in town, and my schedule is pretty flexible.
If the weather is crappy, I coach spinning classes at the Y in Harrisburg - Mon., Wed. noon - and always do a 2-hour class on Black Friday in the morning.
Plenty of options - pm me and we can talk more about specifics . . .

Wolfpack, While I have not posted to Foo in ages you are welcome to our couch and meet my very Fooish roommates. I'm not sure if I'll have time for a ride or not but the local bike club has a ride that Tuesday https://baltobikeclub.org/index.pl/scheduleb

thanks THC. i might check that out - it would be nice to get in a good ride like that.
so far, my plans are to get to baltimore sometime monday, with enough time to maybe get some riding in and/or maybe checking out the area for future relocation. spend the night with one of you foosters monday night, then maybe do that ride with the baltimore club. after that, head up to the harrisburg area, meet up with RTN (will PM you later with specifics - sorry i didnt get to it last night) and maybe 'Zorro if he's around and anyone else. stay in the harrisburg area tuesday night and maybe the majority of wednesday. after that head up to ny....
after i talk to nyguy and figure out what he and i might do (or if i'm going to stay with him or not), i'll have a more definite idea about teh rest of the week...

thanks Air! HG - i'm not looking to hammer on any ride up there, casual all the way. i'm going to see if i can fit all 3 bikes in the car...that way i have the good road bike, the nice beater bike and the cx bike for any kinds of stuff that isn't paved. and, by that week, i'll be ready for an easy week of riding since i'm starting my training season 10/27 and will have had 4 really hard weeks of training at that point..

If he's a Rangers fan, he's a keeper.

hmmmm...i'm going with rangers...need to ask him tonight...
if he's a Devils fan....well, i'll just have to wrestle him and convince him to change his allegiance..
i think he's a keeper either way.
seriously hope the feeling is mutual...

wow - you're driving up with bikes? Excellent! I was gonna say, I def. have an extra bike if you needed it (I wasn't sure what you'd want to rent if you went that route). My 2cents - bring the Cyclocross - that'd be perfect for everything. I have lots of heavy duty locks, fwtw.
I am off Friday and will def. go for a ride if you're in NY and want to do that day. The streets will be crowded, yes (esp. in midtown areas mentioned-not where you really want to ride anyway - they;re always crazy), but I think central park should be fine, and the outer boroughs as well.
Sorry - I am sure you've posted this, but where in NY is NYguy? Manhattan?

A friend once commented on being sucked in to the draft as we approached 50 mph on a descent, and I was leading. We normally rip on each other mercilessly (but all in good humor) about needing to lose weight, but he was actually being serious that time.
Are there any steep descents in the Hershey area, or are they more gradual? I'm most familiar with the stretch along Rt. 322.
