As for hills by me there are plenty but most are not cycle friendly. I ride a route through Jefferson, Roxbury, and flanders on my way to work but thats about all i've tried so far.

1+ I used to rent an apartment in kinnelon and often did this loop into denville and through boonton twp. However there is not much of a shoulder to speak of most of the route.

I drive Kinnelon Rd./Powerville Rd. on a daily basis taking my gf to her office in Mountain Lakes and the one thing I noticed is how the drivers give cyclists and peds a wide berth, especially on the stretches with little or no shoulder and the cops are pretty good about enforcing the speed limits and passing laws, I've seen at least two cars and a couple landscaping trucks get pulled over for not giving enough clearance.

Actually something weird has been happening lately. I've noticed a lot more cars are giving us room, being nice to us and letting us though. We haven't seen a huge decrease in pass and buzz but they haven't been aggressive just people being stupid about how large their vehicle is and how fast we are going.
Next week I ride to Tuckerton (double metric) and the week after that Sandy Hook (century) for training (6/14 - Longest Day Double Century). I can't wait!

Are you sure you're talking about NJ?!

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.
It's more likely than not going to be the cyclist's problem if a head-on collision happens to their left.

Actually, I'm finding the space that some drivers give us on curvy rural roads a bit unnerving. Lately a lot of drivers seem to be going totally over the double yellow for some distance, even on curves (I'm riding mostly in Essex, Morris, Somerset and Hunterdon). I usually ride smoothly and as close to the right as reasonable, and appreciate some room. But I'd hate to be the cause of a head-on. Has anyone else noticed this?
Even though others have pointed out that a head on collision is technically not my problem. The resultant flying debris and shock wave could be my problem if I can't out of the way quick enough.

Oh since this a New Jersey thread I thought other's would like to know that riding through Lebanon State Forest is quite nice (if you like the Pine Barrens). I did a Century+ on Saturday and followed this route:
Cranbury - Mt. Misery (figure 8)

It is also a problem for the innocent oncoming driver and it would likely be a major problem for the cyclist should a collision occur. One also gets some dirty looks from the drivers forced to take evasive action - this can't help the level of goodwill between cyclists and drivers....

I won't be riding that far south but I recommend that you take a look at the weather report. In central Jersey we have an 80% chance of bad boomers (thunderstorms) with high winds.

Let's see, was born when my parent's lived in Turnersville, then on to Upper Deerfield until I was 6, lived in Marlton until after I graduated college (parents still live there), then up to Eatontown, back to Marlton, down with the in-laws for a bit in Millville, and finally in Wenonah/Deptford. And I think I've hated every moment of it. I want to get far far away from here.

NJ stinks!
Well maybe not every moment, but I am ready to escape from here.
