ps: hate is love turned around!
My dissatisfaction has nothing to do with riding as I just got my first real bike on Friday. It has more to do with everything else that is NJ (except the tomatoes. I love Jersey tomatoes). I could list everything out, but it would not be good for my blood pressure.

take it easy on blood pressure, no stress intended!

nj tomatoes should be our state fruit/veggie, they are in my book! had green-house jersey tomatoe sandwhich tonite for dinner...can't wait for late july/early august field ripe...mouth is watering...!

check out riding in cumberland/salem counties here in s nj. south jersey wheelmen is sponsering "get ready metric" century next weekend (50/100km) sagged event on 6/10/8. $20, 8am - 3:30pm.

breath in the cool blue, exhale hot red, flex-release, flex-release... :-) !

Thanks for the invite, but it'll be quite a long time until I can do a metric. As it stands now, 2 miles is the limit for my large self. What does sagged mean?

I think it refers to how you feel after the event's over.

That's funny although it might be true. SAG means support and gear. what that means is there will be a group following the ride to offer support and or carry you and your bike..
This term is used a lot and may mean something else altogether. They may have a group of riders follow the group to fix flats but you may be on your own with anything beyond that! Or it can mean they have a truck that follows the group and if you fall back (for whatever the reason) they will pick you and your bike up and carry you to the next stop.. Its always best to ask what they mean by SAG..

If you're going to dream, dream big! Take a look at this: CJBC's Longest Day, it's a double century (208 miles), double metric (132 miles) or century (108 miles). It's also June 14th (the summer beach/recreation season keeps us from riding on the 21st).

I remember when I first got back on my bike as an adult. I came home frustrated from work (computer hotline) and I took out my old, ill fitting Sears Espirit and road it around the block for 45 minutes. I came back soaked but I felt better. I think I rode 7 miles. That was 18 years ago. I never even dreamed of riding further than that expect I was bored and wanted to look at different scenery. I now ride all over the state.

You take it easy, ride at you're own pace and distance, and get comfortable with the bike. You should enjoy the ride otherwise you won't do it. Good luck!

-SAG support during centuries-

we SAG by traveling the designated route by truck/automobile encountering (and counting) bicyclists positions with eta to finish points. as sag driver, water, food (bananas), and transport/repair can be offered. these offers should enhance the riding experience!

if a person can ride 2 miles, it would be best for them to practice riding increased distances before attempting distances like this. try 4 miles, then 8, etc! see you at the "jersy devel" this sept!

PS: had 2 hothouse jersey tomatoe sandwhiches tonight... :-) , yum!

I saw the jersey devil ride on your site. It starts off down the street from my wife's grandmother. Too bad the stinking state wants to close Parvin. It sounds interesting. I may give it a try if I feel I can do some sort of distance.

My bet is your tomatoes came from Swedesboro. Seems to be where all the hot house tomatoes this time of year come from. I need to find a farm market/fruit stand around my place so I can get some. The vine ripes from the supermarket just don't cut it this time of year.

thanks for your concern about Parvin State Park closing, SJW has alternative lauching sights in view that are nearby, but the thought of PARVIN or FT MOTT closure p's me off, political B/S! let's see what unfolds, send a letter, attend rallies!

tomatoes... we go to a local Menonite grower (Weavers) here in Salem County just past SR 55 on Garden road heading west. their greenhouse makes some pretty good product, secondary to mid july-early august field ripened... :-) (there goes my mouth watering, again.)

Jersey Devel has a 25 mile loop to it that you could practice for. this would be a significant increase to your current 2 mile capasity, but a focus on completion of that distance towards summer end, may be realistic and feasible to your abilities. set your goal and go for it!

Actually I've been riding a lot lately, but not real rides. Just using the bike a lot to run errands and even commuting a little. Trying to prepare myself since I'll be car-less in the next few.

What are some of your favorite rural rides? I'm from NE NJ, so everything is usually jam packed with cars... like to take a day on the weekend and go out west/southwest of me for some farm scenery. The less hilly the better.

Haha...I have a metric buttload of rural riding routes, but whether they're in the Highlands, or in the NW part of the state, they're all very up and down.

Bikes: hopefully soon...

Just starting to bike. I'm in Northeast Bergen county... 300 ft. from NY. Haha, don't have my bike yet but its supposedly on its way from UPS. I'm looking for some riding buddies.

I'm originally from Somerset County, though, so I know a lot of rides down there. I'm always up for traveling to ride.
