RIP. I can't believe he was still pulling down 80K pounds a year in royalties for that tune.

I've been diggin' this video in observance of his passing:

Just got back from my usual wednesday club ride. It was sweet, temps about 34, winds 15 MPH, but sunny and clear roads....there were only 4 of us and we did 50 miles. Happy Happy, Joy Joy.

Do you get much time to ride outside of your Wednesday ride?

Generally twice/week, wednesday and saturday...plus maybe one short (20 mile) commute once a week.

Not enough. I want it every day.

Grumpy, how does Gerry Rafferty pull down $120K/yr. in royalties for one song yet every other band gets an advance and goes broke? Were the contracts different in Rafferty's era, or was he just a smart negotiator?

I am getting tired of the "Roadies and ______" threads. It's going to be a long winter.

So are they pulleys or jockey wheels? Or does it not matter, like tubular vs sew-ups?

They are jockey wheels. I suppose it could even be referred to as an idler pulley.

as was mentioned before, once you have been established for a while, then you have some pull. I don't know who got the publishing on his hits, but he would get the composer credit.

the contracts were different, but not necessarily better. He may have made a lot of money on "secondary markets" (re-use for other stuff like TV, movies, commercials etc)

when I was with Freddie Hubbard he told the audience that he survived during his ten year hiatus just on royalties from "Red Clay", because it was sampled so often by rappers.
