Taking this one step further, it follows that you really don't care what stuff other people are buying or selling.

But that's heresy here, so we won't go there.

Neither did I. I got free frames, wheels, tires, entry fees, kits, and everything else at cost. It would cost me about $400 to put together a $2,000 bike. I paid for my transportation but lodging was provided if needed.

I finally came up with my New Year's resolution. Gonna get out and buy me a new road bike by May Day. I meant to do this last year, but never got a round to it.

Thinkin' I might get the Gavin with 105 for $600 cuz I'm poor.

Yep, I've got ye olde Pinarello. Who knows, I might yank all the parts off whatever complete bike I get and hang 'em on the pinarello.

Dang, all the mail order $600 bikes have 105 rear derailer and Tiagra shifters. I kinda think I'd rather have 105 shifters and Tiagra RD personally.

Yeah, I generally think of carbon as a 3 year bike, aluminum 5. Assuming it's your only bike and you put major mileage on it. YMMV

LesterOfPuppets,

You've obviously been around here for a while but I haven't paid close attention. Are you a younger rider?

Are you into other forms of cycling? Or is it just road?

My first love is MTB trail riding. Since all the good trails around here require an hour's drive first, I do more road miles, though.

I've never been to the Pacific Northwest. I understand that it is nice when it's warm and dry.
