Neither did I. I got free frames, wheels, tires, entry fees, kits, and everything else at cost. It would cost me about $400 to put together a $2,000 bike. I paid for my transportation but lodging was provided if needed.

Yep, I've got ye olde Pinarello. Who knows, I might yank all the parts off whatever complete bike I get and hang 'em on the pinarello.

Dang, all the mail order $600 bikes have 105 rear derailer and Tiagra shifters. I kinda think I'd rather have 105 shifters and Tiagra RD personally.

See if you can find some bike on closeout, hell my caad7 was sitting in the shop for 2 yrs before i bought it for 800 bux back in 06

Yeah, I generally think of carbon as a 3 year bike, aluminum 5. Assuming it's your only bike and you put major mileage on it. YMMV

i like carbon but just prefer alum
