You may have to use the search to find them once they roll off the first page.
It's pretty rare for a thread to be completely deleted (I have seen it a few times when it contains clearly inflammatory or inappropriate material).
I am sure one of the mods can correct me if this is not quite right, but I believe this is the situation.
