I just picked up an Apex brake set for $59. Heavy, but not stupidly so (304g on my scale), and they came with decent pads that actually stop the bicycle. Good for cheap I think.

SRAM is the new Shimano.

I made the mid-day nap mistake also.

I won't be able to properly assess boredom levels 'til the cowboy coffee on the stove is finished brewing and the caffeine snaps me out of this post-nap slump.

I celebrated President's day by laying out a bicycle themed Portland shirt. Hopefully a shop or two will be down to sell 'em.

Sure I do, most of it isn't sell worthy though, but old parts work great when me or one of my friends is in a bind. Plus, I find it's easier to just keep extra bikes laying around for emergencies. You would be amazed how many times I have loaned my friends bikes to race or ride for a week, loaned one of my Fuji SL1's to a friend of mine to race for a month or so.

But then you like the crash bike and fix it up. Then you like it too much and you need another crash bike. Then you like that bike too, so you need another crash bike. It just keeps going forever. Eventually you have 2manybikes.

VA does your allez have the tapered head tube? I think the steerer tube on a tapered fork is also tapered. It is larger at the bottom. if so that fork wont work.

Are you sure it isn't the other way around? Be pretty tough to find a stem if it is the way you say.
