I've also been very interested in this. Here is a youtube video showing this mechanism working.

If I had such a streamliner I'd want footholes combined with landing gear. This way I'd use it in traffic too and not only on racetracks.

One problem with landing gear and public roads is that the roads are typically cambered to drain water into gutters. That makes it very tough to stop on the landing gear, and even tougher to get started.

A "public roads" streamliner would be a velomobile. Most of them have footholes for a little bit of ventilation and for reversing.

Hi Jeff,
Yes I know about velomobiles, they are quite awesome and must be a lot more practical then 2 wheeled streamliners. Since I live in the Netherlands I see quite a lot of velomobiles.

Still, too expensive for me now since I'm only 17. But when I get a job I'm going to save up for an Alleweder (1000/1500 euro's 2nd hand here) or a Mango (2500/3000 euros 2nd hand) which I want to use as a car-alternative for as long as possible, which should be doable since the Netherlands is flat and small enough.

I do like the idea of homemade (coroplast) fairings and two wheeled streamlined shells since they are much cheaper and very adapt for homebuilding. If I had a trike or an OSS bent I'd definitely try and build a coroplast shell for it. On my two wheeled USS bent I'm not sure if it'd work well.

Yeah, USS steering really doesn't work well with fairings at all.

If you're interested, there's an active coroplast builder's group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/15644592486/

I built a Coroplast partial faring for my Lightning about 15 years ago. It came out pretty well: Faux F40

Here's the tailbox: Tailboxes
And here's the instructions: Home
